Tonight watched the remake of The 39 Steps, with Rupert Penryn-Jones as Hannay and the lovely Lydia Leonard as Victoria Sinclair, a suffragette-secret service agent.
Of all the versions this one I liked the least , but it is not terrible. All 4 versions take great liberties with the original book.

  • The Hitchcock 1935 version is one of my favourite films, though. It does add scenes and characters but the humour and chemistry between Robert Donat and Madeleine Carrol is engaging.
  • The Kenneth Moore versions is largely a lesser remake of the Hitchcock version, missing a lot of the sparkle.
  • the 1978 Robert Powell is engaging enough.
  • Netflix are supposedly making a series based on the 39 Steps with Benedict Cumberbatch.

I've only seen the Kenneth More and, I think, Robert Powell. Not a fan of Robert Powell, mostly due to the spin-off series 'Hannay'

I love some of Guillermo del Toro's stuff, and have started watching Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix, a sort of horror anthology. Well-made so far and with solid production values, but pretty weak in the story department. Not sure I'll get much further.

We did too - watched it a year or so ago, and it's good TV.

Watched Paxo's last University Challenge yesterday - end of an era.

Also watched a dreadful documentary about the Monaco GP that we'd recorded on Saturday. Not sure where to start, it's flaws were so numerous...
Never watch University Challenge. I clearly remember it from decades ago when Bambi Gascoigne presented the prog.🙂

'Let Him Have It', a film about Derek Bentley, who was wrongly convicted and sent to the gallows in the 1950s.

A stellar British cast: Christopher Eccleston's first film, Mark McGann, Tom Courtenay, Tom Bell, Aileen Atkins, Michael Elphick...

Well acted and a good script makes this a compelling watch

Watched a few episodes of The Avengers from Series 5 on Amazon.

Great escapism, despite it being 50-odd years old. Oh, then there's the delicious Emma Peel.

1) "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Station" it's a spoof of The Lady Vanishes.

It stars John "We're doomed!" Laurie from Dad's Army. Joyous to watch.

2) "Murdersville". Complete hoot watch

3) "Hidden Tiger". Ludicrous story of a wild cats mauling people and animals alike. It stars Ronnie Barker as an eccentric cat lover.

The Witness Is a Whale, available on BBC iplayer. Documentary about whales and whaling, both fascinating and harrowing insight. So much info I've watched it twice, might even watch it again.

Just now, for about 20 seconds I looked at the EPG.
The synopsis for 'Celebrity Pointless' listed 8 names.

If my life depended on it, I couldn't guess what any one of them were celebrated for.
Never heard of any of them.
That sums up current TV for me.

...Switched back to the news and carried on checking out the shenanigans currently going on in Russia......

We've had the abilty to "timeshift" for 45 years and watch "on demand" for at least 15 years now, so there's absolutely no need, or excuse to watch whatever dross a broadcaster dictates anymore!

I still need to watch a science series I time shifted on the Humax sat box in 2012.
(I've even backed up the HDD. God knows why 🤪)
