What are you listening to?

idc:Matthew, do you listen to albums at fast forward speed, do you professionally listen to albums for a living, do you ever need to go to the toilet?

LOL!!

Its my main hobby outside of work so when I get a day off (like today) I tend to listen for most of the day, one album after another. Nothing can beat a really long listening session. 8 or 9 hour sessions are not uncommon here. I don't always necessarily post in real time either.

the new mastodon album is epic they've really nailed this one, blood mountain was good but this is great!

Steeleye Span's guitarist, who is actually based near here in Preston and has a recording studio there. Excellent solo album from a very sensitive musician.

Joe Bonamassa “The Ballad of John Henry”
Felt well enough to give this it's first play tonight, the first CD by a new artist (to me) that I've bought in about 15 years and I'm quite pleased. Thanks to anyone who responded to my previous post about this and to the HMV shop who were playing it the other Saturday morning.
I like the design on the top of the disc which makes it look like a miniature vinyl LP with only 5 tracks on one side though.

....and finishing off with a little Craig Armstrong compilation of downloaded tracks, including the stunning 'Ruthless Gravity' and 'Finding Beauty'.

Agreed about Crack the Skye. Took quite a few listens for me to get into it but now it's great, music to lose yourself in. If you're going to do prog you may as well go for it, maybe the definitive prog-metal album.

Aaa, Red - my fave Crimson lp. I hear Curt Cobain was particularly fond of this one - a classic.

Chris Cornell's 8-bit wonderland, otherwise known as Scream. It's astonishingly bad. Not simply disappointing, or unexpected, but actually bad. It was like listening to Santana playing Super Mario Bros. You can have a listen here: Chris Cornell Scream Review

Had to give up on the Wakeman. Really needs a very good clean - far too many static pops and crackles. Will have a vinyl cleaning session at the weekend. Listening to Strawbs' second album now on CD (it was their first for A&M, but they had previously made 'All Our Own Work' with Sandy Denny). Its a recent re-issue/remastering and its been done really well. Completely different to their later, more prog influenced sound and a superb example of the band's more acoustic side.

Agreed drummerdave Crack the sky is quite brilliant IMO it gives you more and more each time you listen to it. I read there is also a completely instrumental version of this album i would love to get my hands on that.

Wonderfully fresh sounding performances on authentic instruments, beautifully directed by Christopher Hogwood. No celebrity flashiness here, just perfectly judged interpretations of Vivaldi's music. Superb sound quality as well.

One of my very favourite pianists and one of my favourite recordings. The Grieg was the first concerto I ever played with an orchestra myself so it has a special place in my heart, and Arrau plays it beautifully.

A gorgeous recording of Peter Pears, accompanied by Benjamin Britten, of Britten's folksong arrangements. 'Tom Bowling' is one of the most beautiful pieces of singing (and accompanying) ever recorded.
