What’s the difference between the LG 55 B42 and LG 55B46 apart from hundreds of pounds?

I am trying to choose between two tv's that on paper look identical apart from a £300 price difference. They are the lg oled B4 sisters. Anyone able to pinpoint the difference between the LG 55B42 and LG 55B46 apart from hundreds of pounds? Thanks

Weren't the A series limited to 60hz due to the panel?
Not sure which processor they both use but will be a little off the current pace.

Only thing you can do is have a look at them I think person if possible.

Update. Contacted Richer sounds and the lg oled55b42la was out off stock but they were expecting new stock in soon. Left it a couple of hours and went online hey presto it was showing. Order placed for delivery in 5-7 days. Richer sounds could not spot any difference and i ain't paying an extra £300 without knowing exactly what i am getting

But you’re willing to buy the possibly inferior product without knowing exactly what you’ve bought?

OK.

It’s always possible that LG, one of the world’s biggest TV makers, got their UK £££ numbers wrong by getting confused over relative specs and their values.

Anything’s possible.

Actually, LG’s own response ⬆️ sets it out nicely. Of course, if you don’t value the updated, improved features, it makes total sense to buy the cheaper one.

£899 was my budget, believe me since i posted this thread (and even before) i had toyed with getting the higher spec one and my nightmare would have been that lg had just duplicated the oled55b46la specs across to the 42la specs and sent that info out to all suppliers. Also my existing tv is the lg 43un73906 led uhd so a larger screen for immersive experience, better colour handling, gamut etc at £899 were the comparisons i was making and i really only was trying to ascertain to what extent the 46la was better. My conclusion was that it was marginal and not worth it 👍

We had the same debate over a special JL deal on the LG C3 early this year, knowing the C4 was due shortly after. In the end, went for it, and enjoy the PQ and styling c/w a previous Samsung we’d had.

The 55C4 is rated a big improvement on the 55C3 but on launch it was 70% more than we’d just pd. I couldn’t justify that, and have no regrets. In tech, we buy knowing full well that often something better is just round the corner.

Enjoy your new TV 👍

Also i just remembered the CES in Las Vegas is due next month whereby manufacturers put forward their new models and specs. So this price is end of line. I checked pricing for the 55b42la for the start of this year and it was £1500. Thats not entry level thats mid range pricing as far as i am concerned.

LG make very nice TV's, enjoying my OLEDC4 65", amazing contrast, more realism with colours than my previous LED.
Which ever LG model OP picks, I'm sure it will be absolutely fine.
@Jasonovich

Hi. Since you have the oled c4 i was wondering did you seperately set up different picture settings for sdr, hdr and dolby vision or just rely on the tv detecting them automatically,? Any youtube video does suggest setting up the dynamic range seperately. First tv i've had that does dolby vision and the current lg just handles the the switch between rdr and hdr autmatically . What picture settings are you using ? Thanks

According to that -comparison chart I uploaded it doesn’t do Dolby Vision on the cheaper model.

Not adjusted any settings, it defaults automatically to HDR and I believe if it is SDR it does the same.
I suspect I don't have the optimal settings but at default it's good enough 👍

Time will tell. All other sites including LG themselves say it does. If it doesn't i may return it and pay the difference for the 55b4la due to misleading info
I wouldn’t worry about it either way it still does HDR10 at the very least same as my Samsung TV. Personally I can live without Dolby Vision. The C4 is only £50 more with discount code on the Richer Sounds website over the B46 at £1250.

This is an extract from the Reddit link above, admittedly a second hand post of what LG supposedly has said.

The lack of HLG support would bother me, as that’s what the BBC use for their UHD listings on iPlayer.

So here goes . Got tv today initial set up was just using youtube to test supposed dolby vision content ... no luck. Thought oh well the picture was very good. Eventually decided to log into netflix on the tv as opposed to my sky stream. Decided to look for dolby vision, found The Witcher a soon as i played a few seconds a banner appeared saying dolby vision/dolby atmos. The tv has frickin dolby vision. 😁
