JoelSim:Big Chris:I refer you to my earlier post.....Big Chris:Well. I got it today and set it up about 30 minutes ago.First thing I stuck on was Opeth's 'Deliverance'. I'm still trying to wipe the grin off my face. It's like I've discovered the missing link. I'm hearing a much greater level of detail, I can hear the snare drum reverb that I didn't hear before, I can hear the individual beats with greater clarity. Guitar swells aren't just a case of getting louder, but change tonally too. The pep has been injected into the sound, but there's still the weight I love. It's far from a hard sound that I was expecting.I'm chuffed to bits with it. I now just have to decide what to do with the 72.Only other thing is, I'm now up for an amp upgrade! But I'm happy in the knowledge that this current upgrade will serve me well for some time.

If you can pick up an A85/P85 combo off fleabay you will again be well chuffed with the improvement.

I'll just have to try to convince you to go all FMJ Joel. Then you can flog me yours.

;-)

Shame, hadn't noticed it was black tbh.Though it's worth keeping an eye on their ebay shop because they seem to have a regular supply of pre-owned,factory refurbed and BNIB/end of line kit.

Their pic showing a silver one doesn't help matters!

Thanks for the heads-up anyway Dave.

Hey Chris

I had an A65+ and CD62t for some years. I upgraded to an CD192 and love the detail it revealed in the music. I went through hundreds of faviourite cds to hear all the subtle bits I had never heard before. An A85 would really transform your sound again though. When I swapped my A65 for an A32 I started having problems getting up for work as I would be up late into the night just listening to music!!

Joel - A32. Come on man, you know it makes sense!

Fellas! Stop now! I know, I know, I know, but it's not an option at the moment. I would get in trouble which is why I've been buying things under the radar this year.

Probably a good thing as I want to upgrade properly rather than just a teensy A32/P35 combo which have many of the same parts as what I have. Realistically I need to spend in the region of £5,000 at RRP to really better what I have to the degree that I need to, so I have to pick my moment. My 192 is probably the last CDP I will buy, the amps and speakers will be upgraded tho'.

ÿ

And I know about the night thing, that already happens too regularly, and probably tonight and I have the dentist first thing tomorrow who will be well chuffed with me blowing 12 hours old Fleurie all over him.

OK. So phase 2 of my system shakedown is (almost) complete.

I'd been watching an A85 in silver for a few days, and with 3 mintues to go (halfway through 'Top Gear' last night), it was £200. But with some smart tactics in the dying seconds, and with the usual frenzy, I won it for £285.

The guy wants £35 postage, but he's just up past Chelmsford, so I'll probably just go and pick it up instead.

Mmmmm..... What speakers should I go for?

;-)

JohnDuncan:I know a guy with a pair of Kudos that might be going cheap. Slight fire damage.

:)

Too big i'm afraid. I originally bought the 602 S3s for the scale, but now I'm using the PV1 in my system, I can get away with speakers that have hardly any bass, but that can do the mids and treble very well indeed...... aka. Diddy little speakers.
