vibration isolators

In the recent discussion concerning vibration someone suggested using squash balls cut in half as vibration isolators. Does anyone else have experience with that method?

Hi,
As a cost-effective way of getting some isolation for your kit it works well. Though I have to say a dedicated platform like Audiophile Base's Base 01 (around £140) will work better. But, given the price difference that's no surprise.

Why use squash balls unless you play and have them lying around. Check these out http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230205165341 not a great deal of money and will probably be a little better than cutting squash balls.

I had a noisy Humax PVR, I stood it on some pieces of foam packing I got from B&W when I needed to replace a tweeter which had become damaged from a digit of a small child

The new tweeter works fine and the packing it came in is now under the Humax and it sorted out the vibration problem, 2 jobs sorted in one.

BTW many thanks to B&W, I ordered the High frequency unit over the phone and it arrived the next day, excellent service.

I think it's an old wife's tales myself but acknowledge that at least one of my HiFi friend is using this method.

This shop has some bargains - (I'm not affiliated by the way) - the spikes I bought for my CD player worked a treat for me...........

Also, some spike shoes work for me under speakers - tightened up vibration/bass effectively.
