Hi again. I've taken people's advice every time (even if not immediately, but eventually) while I've been upgrading my system. I'm now ddown to the last component, the all-important subwoofer. Limiting me is space and price, but I've narrowed it down to 3 choices that seem to fit all requirements. Now all I need is advice from someone that's owned them or has any opinion one way or the other (hopefully a technical one!) They are....

Mordaunt Short Alumni 9

or Velodyne Impact-10

or Velodyne Impact-mini

Unfortunately, I can't afford any of the other highly-rated ones on WHF, but if anyone can give me an opinion on any of the above, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

I actually have a velodyne impact10 sub, had it about 3 weeks and im pleased with it. Its not got massive power but i would say as long as you are sitting no more than about 11or12 feet away from it, it is good. It has a nice clean sound, in my opinion i would say it's better than the mordaunt alunmni9, it's probably more equal to a mordaunt short avant 309i or bk gemini.

Excellent, thanks. Due to room layout, the sub would be directly behind me, so that's not an issue. did you do any research on the other impact subs before buying that one? My current sub is only 80 watts, so I daresay I won't share your opnion about not being very powerful anyway. My absolute top priority is it has to be tight, punchy, crystal-clear bass, but still have a low-end to turn your bones to water. Does it fit the bill and that regard?

Researched on the net, but because the velodyne is quite new there wasnt much to go on, i did find a few personal reviews and they were all positive. I decided the impact10 would be good enough for my needs. The 10 is 150 watts rms power, thats good but not huge in general for subwoofers. You simply are not going to get gigantic slam or very low and loud bass depths for the kind of money the veoldyne impact subs cost. But for the money it's good and hits hard enough and loud enough for me personally, maybe you would need the impact12. I got mine from furturehome by the way, i had good service from them.

Thanks again. Can't go ffor the Impact-12 as it's too big for my room. Even the Impact-10 is pushing it! Ideally, someone will also be able to tell me that the Impact-mini (which is the perfect size) will fit the bill exactly..... but I can't see how such a (reputed) big bass sound can come out of something that small! Ultimately, that's what a subwoofer's job is. But being that Velodyne are subwoofer specialists, I also can't believe that they'd put something out that didn't have pumping bass!
