Today I bought a demonstration Project Xperience Superpack turntable at £400 in pristine condition! winner....but I am having trouble setting it up. I get the arm to float correctly with the counterweight but when I place the anti-skating force adjustment weight- the arm just moves to the right...please can anyone help??? I am dying to hear this fabulous turntable. I am using a Ortofon 2M red cartridge.

try a position closer to the pivot. there are 3 grooves.

the manual does give the info and they are downloadable from Projects webby.

shame it did not come with the Rondo Red.

You say you have got the arm to 'float right', do you mean it is balanced? Do you still need to add the required weight by turning the weight clockwise according to the cartridge specs?

yes-the arm is balanced...the weight measure is at 0. It's when I place the anti skat weight that makes the arm go to the right- back to it's resting position- hence it does not stay level with the record in order for me to lower it and play a record.

Having balanced it, you MUST then set the recommended tracking force by gripping the scale dial and the counterweight together and turning until the desired number. (Usually around 1.8 for 1.8 grammes)

If you tried to play an LP with the arm just balanced it will skip all over the shop!!

Instructions...

Ensure that the stylus cover is removed when balancing and setting tracking force.

Was the cartridge already fitted? If not, then you probably need to get yourself to a dealer (old school variety) and get an alignment protractor and some practical advice on aligning it.

But put simply - it sounds like you're missing out a step:

Get the arm to float (as above) and rotate the scale so it says zero. Then turn the counterweight anticlockwise (if looking at it from the front - it'll feel like clockwise in your hand obv) until it says 1.8g (or so) - otherwise it'll just float inmidair and won't land on the record! Then stick the little dangly weight on (probably in the middle groove, you'd better hope so cos it's a total faff to move afterwards).

That should be it...

Ooo jinx chebs.

I got it to play but the dial with the measurements on the counterweight is on 15. Is this right or totally wrong? .....I want to make sure I get the best out of this turntable, otherwise I am just wasting money :)

well if you read the manual ( from memory) balence it set the dial to zero then set it to what wheight is recommended for the cartridge.

so what is recommended for the one fitted?

Set it to 18 (it's in milliNewtons I think). Provided what you;ve done so far is get it to 'float', rotate the scale dial (without turning the counterweight) at zero and you then turn both the counterweight and the dial till it was at 15?
