Hi,

I am currently using a computer based system running through a Cyrus DACX+.

I have an Asus sonar essence ST sound card with a good clock and headphone Amp on board and is independently powered by the Thermaltake Toughpower 850w PSU.

This then is connected to my Cyrus DACX+ through 1m wireworld starlight 6 digital coaxial cable.

Then from there into my AVI Legacy S21 M1 Integrated Amplifier via chord Anthem interconnects (the older black type).

Then intern runs to my Monitor Audio RX2 Speakers, which reside on Partington Super Dreadnought Speaker Stands via a 7m pair of Nordost Gold Flat line MK II speaker cables.

My question is where I go from here.

Although I love them I’m guessing my speakers are the weakest link here!

I like the weight and scale the bigger 8inch/200mm Bass mid drivers give me and don't want to lose that or any of it's fine qualities for that matter.

I am open to using floor standers or stand mounted speakers.

The setup is currently in a smallish room 13feet/3.9m by 12feet/3.6m but I am thinking of moving it to a room which is 30feet/9m by 15ft/4.5m.

I have up to £2000 to spend on upgrades.

Can you what Hifi guys help please!

James

Hi Folks.

I'm looking to upgrade from my cyrus DACX+ which I use with a cyrus external power supply also.

I have been considering Chinese alternatives to get more for my money.

DAC@S Ive been looking at include

Lite DAC 68 (tube anologue stage)

Lite DAC 83

Monarchy Audio NM24

Wired for sound DAC-2 (TAS210)

AUdio gd reference 7.1

AUdio gd NFB 9.2

I'm considering new & second hand so I'd be open you DACS from any where I just want to better what I have.

I'm Running the DAC in to Beyerdynamics A1 connected to the Beyerdynamics T1 headphones.

Also Into My Amplifier an AVI S21Lab Series Intergrated Connected to a pair of Spendor A6's.

All units connected with quality cabling.

Any suggestions, reviews & experiences greatly appreciated

I love my wyred-4-sound DAC2 which otherwise feeds Cyrus electronics. If you like Cyrus, this is a good option IMHO.

I think a DAC should be transparent, which the W4S DAC2 is. The (admittedly lower end) DAC in the PreXpd is "woolly" in comparison. When feeding the optical out of the Cyrus CD6SE into the W4S DAC2 the sound is similar but clearer than the analogue out of the CD6SE which I already love.

Just my 2 cents!

Hi,

thanks for your comments and insight.

I like the review of the wyred for sound on John Darkos Review web site ( http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/ )

He has most of the decent dac's review on his site that are'nt available over here g

I'm leaning towrds these few Dacs at the moment,

Naim DAC, (whathifi have reviewed this)

Audio gd reference 7.1 Dac ( http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2011/04/audio-gd-reference-71-dac-8-x-pcm1704uk/ )

Audio gd master 7 Dac

Lite Dac 83 Dac ( http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2011/01/lite-dac-83-4-x-burr-brown-pcm1704uk/ )

Schiit Gungnir Dac

all I believe based on the pcm1704 uk chip.

Input greatly needed so I can make the best decision I can as I am not able to audition the for My self due to circumstances at the moment.

Here's a thought!

How about moving all your gear into the bigger room.....see how it sounds....then re evaluate you may surprise yourself as room acoustics really affect how equipment sounds.

Compared to the best components available: your sound card and DAC are fine, your amp's good enough, your speakers are pants. Move your hi-fi into the bigger room and get some proper speakers. Speakers that aren't tiny 2 way ported designs.

I'm going to have to agree to differ with you there as I have realy liked the RX2's dispite there colourations & the price..

How ever they have gone into a second system & i'm urrently running spendor A6's & loving them.

Have my DAC choice down to 3 now after much deliberation.

They are the Naim DAC, The Bryston BDA-1 & the Synthesis Matrix.

All different tonaly but all good in their own right.

Whatdo you al think????
