The upgrade bug should be treatable on NHS. Anyone willing to suggest my next treatment with a few K to spend? Opinions would be much appreciated.

Although not unhappy with current system the bug keeps biting.

Yamaha 2025 and AE evo 5.1 system.

Cheers

hi there,

just seen on SSAV website that the Yamaha RX-A 3010 is down to £1300 from £2K, might worth an audition based on your current amp

I think the 3010 is the minimum you're going to need to look at to make a worthwhile change to your receiver, although whether you think it is worth £1300 for the difference would be up to you. I suppose it depends on how much you can claw back from your 2065.

An upgrade to the speaker package will be pretty costly, and would more than likely need a suitable receiver change, but I would look at replacing the two very different subs you have for a single, better one that is more capable.

Thankyou both for yr comment. I will think about these solutions. The sub change leads me to continue experiments since the room gives very different bass levels in different seating positions. Thanks again.

and there again . . . WHF well matched system includes a £1000 Pioneer amp which I guess is on a par with my Yamaha, RX Silver speakers at £2200 and a £500 BD. Still not sure!!

I would say it is nicely balanced. I find that you'll be looking at something like a £2.5k package as a next step, which the 2065 will drive, but how well will depend on the package itself. A sub/sat package will be no problem, but if you're looking at the likes of MA RX package, or something with more demanding floorstanders at the front, it may not quite have the guts and control needed to get the best from them. There's no rules here, it's just about matching receiver and speakers.

Sub options will depend on your restrictions on size allowed :)

Thanks again. Not sure how to proceed but certainly some room for thought.

Cheers

And maybe another thread but ...

In my rectangular room with the setup across one end although the bass is adequate in the seating position, there is significant bass boost down the other end of the room (which is not used for seating). So I guess the bass is trapped down there ! Although limited to positioniong of the sub which is behind the seating firing towards the TV (roughly) is there any advice for sub positioning or is there something else I can do to target the bass. Or am I barking (mad) totally up the wrong tree?

Cheers again

It sounds like you need some acoustic treatment in your room with your bass issues. I can recommend GIK Acoustics. You can send them pictures of your room with the dimensions and they'll advise the best treatments.
