Hi,

I currently listen to a pair of B&W 684 on an old Onkyo stereo amp+cd. I know I could upgrade my B&W's with a Rotel 1520 or Yamaha As 1000. But I want to look at something else, because I get a bit bored by the B&W sound.

My wife allow me to place the speakers only 20-30 cm from the back of the wall, and sometimes the B&W bass becomes too heavy and not very thight.

My room is only 20 m2 but I prefer floorstanders cause I do not like the looks of standmounters. I listened to Dali Lektor 6, Monitor Audio rx8 and Focal 816w. The rx8 was the best speaker but I think the rx serie will not allow only 30cm from backwall placement.

I want to get a new amp+cd too, so the whole package will be renewed. Can anyone advice me? I want to spend about 3,000 pounds for speaker+amp+cd+interlink+speakercable

IMO the speakers arent the problem; it's your amp and source!

The B&W 684 speakers are superb and probably some of the best you can buy for under £1k that suit your music well.

I think looking at NAR, Rotel or Cyrus amplification with a decent CD player such as the Rega Apollo or Cyrus 6SE CDP would work very well.

You need to arrange some demos with your speakers and different amps and CDP's; I think you'll soon see what can be improved

Hi , thank you for your reaction,

I did listen to the rotel 1520 and the yamaha as1000 on the B&W 684, i did improved the sound, but still I didn't like the B&W's.

The Monitor audio rx serie was far superior, also the Dali Lektor performed better on a cheap Marantz amp.

The Monitor audio was brilliant on a naim 5i and a marantz pm 8003. But I don't know if the Dali, Monitor Audio and B&W 684 are too big for my room?

It is only 20 m2 and 30cm space from speaker to concrete back wall.

Maybe slim floorstanders are the best solution?

Like the Totem Arro, Audiovector K3 Super or Neat Motive 2?
