Hi all,

I am looking to buy a new tv. Am on a pretty tight budget, €650 (£525) would be ideal, might stretch up to €750-800 (£600-640).

The new Samsung 6 series have caught my eye, especially the UE40ES6100 which i can get for €750 with €100 cash back. Could also get the UE40ES6300 for about €770, but I'm still a bit puzzled at the difference between the two.

I haven't found any decent reviews yet, so I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with it or would recommend another TV in that price range? I don't care much for smart TV applications or 3D, just want decent picture quality.

Another option might also be the UE40ES5500, which can be had for only €533. Has no 3D and almost no smart TV applications, but I don't know about the difference in image quality?

Thanks for the help!

The ES6100 doesnt look like its comming to the UK so I can't comment on that one but I have had a good play around with both the ES5500 and ES6300.

I tested these (aswell as several others in the John Lewis store I visited) with a USB memory stick onto which I had loaded a couple of 2 minute clips ripped from video files I had acquired :shifty: most were 1920x1080 resolution with one good ol DVD rip thrown in for good measure.

You've picked up on the main difference between the two models - 3d or lack thereof, the other main difference from my perspective is the refresh rate of the panel.

The ES5500 runs at 50hz while the ES6300 is equivalent to 200hz according to samsungs website. The difference between the two was definately noticeable. I wouldnt say there was a massive difference in the level of detail, quality of colours etc but the ES6300 was noticeably smoother.

Essentially you would be paying the fat end of 240 euro extra for active 3D (should have at least 2 pairs thrown in), improved motion handling and built in wi-fi.

If you can get any cashback deal on the ES6300 it's a no brainer, otherwise you need to think about if you need the extra features.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I'll decide in the shop if I find the difference worth the extra..

Cheers!

Also looking at the 6300, where are you getting your 100 cashback?
