Do I need to turn this on or something because I'm watching football on it and the motion is rubbish. I'm really dissapointed. I brought it the other day after a long wait because I thought it would be better than my old LG for football, but I'm sure I get more pixleated, lag, noise and stutter from this. I would have brought a plasma but I play alot of games on it so LCD is more appropriate

Plasma should be fine for gaming... Screen burn is a load of old hat these days... take it back and get the plasma or get used to the blur.

If your watching Liverpool Chelsea this evening, then it's all down to the rubbish transmission from ITV.

Got this off another forum

" am watching the Liverpool-Chelsea game to via a Sky+ box, but on a Pana 32" CRT and I can confirm that the picture is truly awful. This is down to ITVs low bandwith and terrible compression artifacts - not necessarily your new tele."

I was watching that game. I can believe that too because ITV have rubbish coverage of football as a rule. I really need to watch a game on Sky sports. I am annoyed though because this new motion pro thing is supposed to be the saving grace of motion blur and poor sports picture on LCD but so far I'm not impressed. I can't believe they never mention any of this in reviews on this site. When they reviewed this tv, loads of people asked about the 100hz at the bottom of the page and they just wouldn't answer any questions about it.

Even on my (soon to be replaced) 26" Sony CRT, the amount of picture noise had to be seen to be believed. I am undecided between LCD and Plasma, but I imagine it was a really nasty experience tonight on the former.

Indeed, even on a plasma, ITV coverage is not brilliant I'm afraid. Bearable, but not brilliant. Will be so happy when F1 goes back to BBC next year - I just hope they take Brundle et al with them!

I am now in a state of shock! I'm watching the united v Barca game on sky sports and it's like i've got a new tv. I think it's a disgrace that ITV have got the rights to any football let alone the future England games. I'm not thinking about taking my TV back any more. I'm gonna go write on the FA forum about how annoyed I am with the whole situation. Bye.

Im with you on that Proff. I have heard rumours that Murray Walker may be making a come back for the BBC. I hope the ITV guys switch over as they do an amazing job. The racing may be dull at times but the team make up for it.

I got my new Pany 42"PZ85 today and you can deffinately notice how bad ITV is with say BBC1. I havn't had much time with it yet but I have to say im very impressed so far. Only watched sd from the Digital On board tuner and through SKY. Sat about 10 ft away from it and most of the channels look very good. Considering how much bigger the screen is than my old 32" Pany crt, im sure the pictures better on the plasma.I havn't spotted any motion blur so far. Glad I went for a plasma at this size,as the lcd's I saw couldn't compete with the plasma's on motion handiling.

Im still waiting on my hdmi lead to arrive so havn't tried dvd's or more importantly GT5 in 1080p :( . I was going to "borrow" my brothers lead but he was watching films on his PS3.

I havn't tweaked it much yet, just made sure to turn off IFC and a very quick set up. The sound was a little bit tiny at 1st but a quick tweak on the settings solved that. I have to say I was expecting the sound to be terrible after all the talk about how bad the sound is on lcd and plasma. But I was pleasantly suprised how good it was, also the BBE VIVA virtual surround works well. Im not sure if it's different on an 80 as the 85 and 800 have upgraded audio. But it's plenty good enough for normal stuff. I have a proper surround system for movies etc.

1 thing I will need at some point is to get a proper stand, when funds allow of course. Im using the cabinet from my old 32" at the moment. And while it will do for now it doesn't look the most stylish with a nice plasma sat on top.

I'm interested in this LCD too. My problem with plasma is the screen burn, the set is for my mother who is worried about burning the screen, so we've opted for an LCD.

I'm not up on the tech side of things, we have a sky box (freesat) and a sat dish and a standard DVD player. when you guys say ITV is low quality, is that through an dish or an aerial? Is the TX-37LZD85 going to be good with my setup?

Any help would be great

Thanks

Well, screen burn isn't really an issue for plasmas nowadays - do a search in the forum for "screen burn" and you'll see many posts about how this problem has been solved from modern sets.

The bit rate issue is the bit rate at which the program is broadcast by ITV. ITV1 is broadcast at 2.8Mbps on Sky and Freeview, whereas BBC1 is broadcast at a lovely 4.2 Mbps on Freeview. Other factors do come into play on this as well of course, such as the quality of the original recording.

Hi Pogo stick,

The tele will be fine for your needs. I have a 32LXD700 which is a great set but had to turn the football off as I found the PQ (picture Quality) so bad.

It was the quality of broadcast which was poor whether received via sky or freeview.

The screen should be fine with your setup and will allow an element of future proofing (great picture if you view a High Definition source.
