Do TV's have automatic scaling or do you actually have to activate this via the TV's Set-Up menu?

Mine's a Samsung Plasma PS42Q97HDX. Krime and Harris have the 50incher: Boys...did either of you have to activate this?

The reason I ask is because a Pioneer dealer has advised me that the Pioneer 4280XD's Set Up allows you to select the right Scaling option

On the Samsung it is done automatically, the screen will scale any signal to 768P no mater what the signals native resolution.

So Krimy: If I fed the TV with an unspcaling of 1080p it would convert to 768p?

Your Plasma like mine will not accept a 1080P signal (I have tried, the screen just goes black) But if you feed it a 1080i signal the TV will automatically scale it to 768P being the screens native resoultion. Like wise when you use the TV's Analog/Freeview tuners the recived information is at 576i the TV scales the information to its native 768p otherwise the picture would only take up a percentage of the screen.
