A question for Clare, Andrew and other TV reviewers, please - and asked in the spirit of polite enquiry. Although you report it as you see it, have you ever discussed why your TV review conclusions are fundamentally different to those conducted by the consumer association Which? It happens more than occasionally with bigger Panasonic sets but the most diverse opinion was with the Pioneer Kuro in which they could't 'see what all the fuss was about'.

To reiterate, not asking you to justify your choices but it's an interesting divergence of opinion that others might be interested in reading of.

In the interests of balance I'm asking them the same question.

I think the fact they came to the conclusion they did with the Kuro, just points how out of touch Which? really are.

Out of touch with what, David? Do you have some negative experience of Which reviews? I assumed they just watched and listened to the sets like the What hifi team then report honestly what they think.

Agree I'm sure in the magazine review I saw they also claimed LCD had the edge on Plasma .. Maybe they should stick to washing machines!!

I've often wondered if Which have the required experts for AV etc, or just a panel of "jack of all trades" to cover everything they deal with.. Can they possibly have/afford these experts?

I seriously doubt it.

The reviews I have read which I consider serious and professional have rated the Pioneer Kuro's as the best TV's ever. End of story.

It is not only WhatHifi. A shame the production has been closed.

It is easy to forget that is one persons opinion as opposed to anothers.

The Which website says:

Testing takes time: We played 2,000 hours of music to test MP3 players;
we ran digital camcorders for 84 hours to test battery life; and our
panel listened to 136 music and speech tracks to test digital radios

I think value for money is probably the most important criterion for Which, and it is mostly aimed at the 'average consumer', so its conclusions on enthusiast products such as hi-fi, home cinema and cameras, will offer differ from the specialist press.

Personally, I can't stand their 'holier than thou' attitude ...

Which have replied and said that in the case of the Pioneer, during the panning sequences, there was an unacceptable amount of judder (they do acknowledge deep blacks and rich colours). Personally, I've never seen one but I wondered if any owners (or reviewers) wanted to support or refute their findings.

Had my 5090 for 5 months and if there is judder, I don't notice it. Viewing distance approx 12 feet.

So, unaceptable judder?...................NO.
