Have a 28" Sony Trinitron CRT which we've had for about 7 years. Over the past few days when the set is cold the picture has a slight yellow tint to it, but clears after a few minutes.

To repair or replace?

My problem is the coffers are a little thin after buying a van and MOT and insurance to the Alfa, all within the last month and a half.

How much bothered are you by it? There's no point in repairing a CRT TV. If the yellow tinge is only momentary & doesn't affect your viewing, stick with it until it completely goes kaput. You may have a better budget for a TV at that stage.

If it clears after a few minutes - and doesn't get worse - then carry on.

Getting a good 32" LCD/LED should clear a fair bit of space though (and remove any need for the set-top box that you - presumably - have to use with an old CRT).

No, it's an integrated TV.

It does clear after a while, but forgot to mention, that when you put it on 'TEXT' the words are very hard to read for the first ten minutes or so.

It's likely to gradually get worse, and when you can't live with it anymore...replace it. It will probably take too much to repair, and there could easily be something else waiting in the wings to go wrong, even if you did.
