Hi All,

A friend of mine wishes to install a television above a fireplace in their living room. Whilst I can certainly recommend TVs I've actually no idea how heat from the fireplace affects TVs.

Is plamsa or LCD the best bet in this instance ? I've seen this installation a number of times browsing through mags ... is there a way of deflecting the heat ?

Regards,

Matt.

Howdy,

I placed my Pioneer plasma above a fire place, but I spoke to pioneer first.

they said : - please allow at least 2 foot from edge of fire to plasma, and is recommended that there should be some kind of deflection(Shelf).

Speaking to my mate who is a gas man he said : it also depends on if you have a back boiler behind your fire which heats the water or you have a combi boiler. As the back boiler is required to heat your water and central heating the heat generated from a back boiler is far more frequent.

Hope this helps

I'd also just check the viewing distance from the fireplace. If you have to raise the TV quite high to avoid issues with heat from the fire, and if you're sitting quite close, you are going to be finding you're continually craning your neck to see the screen...
Ideally, the TV should be in line with your eyes when you're sat in the normal position and it's rare you can achieve this when mounting above a fireplace.

Since most fireplaces are about 2 feet tall and surrounds another couple of feet allowing for the 2 feet Pioneer have recommended could mean that the bottom of the TV is 6 feet from the floor. Would you not consider this to be too high? I prefer the tv to be level with eye-view when in a seated position.
