Turntable interconnects

To my surprise I could not find interconnects specific for turntables on this website. They might be there but I could find them and there are too many interconnects to browse through manually (shame on you whathifi

)

I tried a search by the way, without success.

So, could someone tell me what interconnects are there on the market for turntables specifically? I'm looking for some that have an earth lead build in. I have seen a pair from Pro-ject for a tenner or so, which is too low end for me (even though they may be decent for their price), and I have seen van der Huls for 150GBP plus, which is way above my budget. I was thinking something between the 30 and 75 GBP, depending on quality rating.

Question: I noticed none of the interconnect appear to have shielding. Is this correctly observed, or are the shields internal, and connected to the walls of the connectors?

ksporry many turntables have captive interconnects so theres no a lot of scope for specialist ones

also the cable upgrade bug has thankfully left turntables largely alone

if you think the sound from your turntable can be improved id look at the cartridge or the phono preamp before anything else

try the incognito rewiring kit. this is from cartridge clips to phono plugs. it'll bust yr budget, but it includes tonearm rewiring as well.

This is a question which I don't get completely.

A TT have interconnects, which are normally good enough. To replace these is a delicate matter and a professional should do it. The interesting question is whether you have a separate phone pre-amp which would need an additional interconnect. If so you should try to sort this out by testing. My experience says that for this kind of money a Chord simple interconnect is an option or a Linn Black. A good idea is to hear it combination with the speaker cables, so that you have a set of cables from one manufacturer. These manufacturers normally know what fits. Its then a matter of taste.

It depends on whether your turntable has a captive interconnect or RCS sockets. Mine, for example, has RCA sockets, so the OP's question is a reasonable one.

What turntable do you have, ksporry, so we can work out which of the above advice is best?

At the moment I do not have a turntable, but I hope to get a Genie mk2 soon, which has separate interconnects.

Also I am making my own turntable, which will comprise of a multi layered platform chassis, that separates the motor from the platter/arm chassis, made of 40mm oak sandwiched in aluminium plates, with an acrylic platter. teh interconnects would very much depend on what arm I would get

TBH I'd use the interconnects that come in the box with the Genie, they're reasonable quality. And as for the DIY jobbie, it will depend on what arm you get yes - a lot of separately-sold tonearms (Rega is the prime example) have a captive lead.

I just use the one tha Project supplied with my TT. As it is regarded to be fine for the job, but if you do go down the upgrade line you will need a separate earthing wire.

Yeah, I was thinking either the rega 250 or 300, or an origin live arm for the DIY unit. I was keeping my eye on some leads from Jelco (SA 750D), which look pretty decent, but I havent seen any reviews of them yet.

Sorry to drag up another old thread. I have a Rega RP3 which connects to a Dynavox TC750 PRE-AMP. The pe-amp then connect to an Arcam Alpha 1 amp, using the inter-connects supplied with the pre-amp. Would it be worth my while to upgrade the interconnects connecting the pre-amp to the Arcam amp. I have Van Den Hul interconnects connecting my cd player to the Arcam amp.

Would it be worth my while to upgrade the interconnects connecting the pre-amp to the Arcam amp. I have Van Den Hul interconnects connecting my cd player to the Arcam amp.

My opinion for what it's worth...

I have a Project turntable and a Project pre amp. I upgraded the interconnects from those that came with the kit - to Wireworld Luna cables (as they are my cable of choice). And the difference is amazing.

I recon that you should go with the cables you have enjoyed (Van Del Hul) and you will be happy with the result.

I know that Pro-Ject makes 'better' interconnects, but I haven't tried or heard them. At least they come with an earthing wire.

No idea how much they are, but they seem a bit of overkill on a Pro-Ject Genie.

I am using the supplied Pro-Ject interconnect cables with my new TT, and I don't feel the sound is compromised in anyway. I'm no expert on cables, and never enter the endless debates about the pros and cons of different brands etc. but these Pro-Ject leads seem to be well made, not cheap looking, and do a good job. I've not tried other leads to compare yet, and I probably wont as I'm perfectly happy with the Pro-Jects.

PS: In my limited experience of interconnect and speaker cables over the years I've yet to find any "night and day" differences with any cable. Now speakers or even cartridge are a different kettle of fish.

I got a Debut Carbon SB - got it in January. At the moment it's back with Henley Designs as it started going backwards. Apparently it's the speed module that went awry - so they are getting a replacement part from Project.

It would be good to get together when I get it back. Have you still got my email?
