Looking for some turntable recommendations please,
to go with a Cyrus 8vs2 and B&W CM1 S2 system.

Level of CD playback I'm used to would be the likes of Arcam CD73, CD192 , NAD 546 , that sort of thing , Mid - Fi stuff.
Looking for something that'll give me a similar level of performance.

Will be using mostly for classical music.
Budget is on the tight side - preferably under £400 ( includes phono stage )

Will not rule out second hand market either as I generally buy most of my kit used , but being a bit of a novice when it comes to vinyl playback I may vere on the side of caution and stick with new.

I'd be highly appreciative for some guidance and recommendations

Thanks!

You'll be looking at entry-level models such as Pro-ject, Rega... if you are looking at new. They will suffice if you are comparing it with a CD73 but you'll need to up your budget if you want something to match a CD192. That said, don't expect like-for-like vinyl v CD playback.

There are countless s/hand examples but it'll depend on condition. Some have been looked after well, others have been abused. The best advice is contact a couple of high street dealers for any ex-dem models.

Thanks for the suggestions plastic penguin.

Some decently priced options there with excellent reviews.
I'd been given the impression there wasn't much worth having in that price range but obviously there are options.

Wouldn't expect CD192 levels of detail from what I'm looking to spend , that's for sure. Nor do i really mind , In fact I'm willing to lose some detail and dynamics in favour of a less pastaurised sound that seems to be fairly consistent with midrange CD playback.
I did have a Theta CDP for a time which was breathtakingly good and may have ruined my relationship with the mid level CD players.
Everything since seems to sound unnaturally clean or artificial to me now hence why I'm looking to try the turntable route.

If was my money I would spend more money on the turntable (Rega Planar 3 or something of that ilk) and buy a s/hand phono stage.

This looks good but the very top end of your budget.

Having trouble quoting you plastic penguin.

That P5 looks very interesting but I'll have to stay clear of the bay for the time being I think. Wouldn't have the confidence to buy second hand online yet as my knowledge of turntables is practically non existent.

There's a very good domestic classifieds were I'm living so that could be an option, that way I can physically inspect what I'm buying.
There's some decent TTs listed at the moment, actually a ( edit -P3 ) well within budget. I'll investigate a bit further on that one.
Also plenty of options locally to buy new entry level Pro-ject's and Rega's so I may just go down that route.

There's lots of vintage Thorens , Technics and the like listed in my local classifieds , tempting to investigate those but might be best to stear clear of that avenue for the moment.

Indeed, they seem reliable, although according to the listing they don't ship to my location. (Dublin)
A phone call could sort that... I'll give them a shout if I decide on it.
Very tempted to put an offer in on the P3 in my area. Best I continue my homework a bit first though.
