Hi folks,

I've recently bought an Airport Express to stream music to the hi-fi and have a couple of questions.

I am currently receiving the internet via an ethernet cable from my TalkTalk router. Do I need to have it set up wirelessly to use the Airtunes software as it cannot find the Airport Express at the moment. Will I need a flashdrive to do this (whatever that is?!) or what do I do?

Help!

If you are using a cable network I think you need to connect the AE to the cable modem using an ethernet otherwise connect the cable modem to an Airport Extreme Base Station then wirelessly to the AE.

If thats not the correct procedure someone will say.

I was having problems recently because I think there is a new legal catchall checkbox for music sharing in the recent version of iTunes. Previously everything was working fine, but everything suddenly stopped, but came right when I played with the settings in iTunes.

Check here for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688

I'm using an ethernet connection but into a wireless box.

Any ideas John Duncan?

You don't need to set your computer to access the internet wirelessly, but I think you will need to enable the wireless network card to access the Airport Express.

I remember a thread a while back about streaming music to the Airport Express over the Ethernet cable but as I remember I couldn't get it working on my system. Will see if I can find it.

EDIT - nope, found it and I'm wrong (as usual!). If you want to stream music over your wired connection, you should just be able to tick the box called Enable AirTunes over Ethernet on the Music tab of the Airport Utility. However, you will probably need to connect to it wirelessly to start off with in order to change this setting.

See this thread for a screenshot on the Mac version.
