For me they could have gone in two directions with the alien franchise (after aliens): either follow Ripleys story (which they did) or bring the alien to Earth.

For me alien3 should have been about how the alien came to Earth and starts taking over ending with the human race sending a distress signal into space for reinforcements to come and help rid the Earth of the infestation.

Obviously Alien 4 should have been the Predators responding to the signal and coming to help us eliminate the alien from Earth

Messiah:

1. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

2. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

3. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

I'd go along with that.

alien prequel on the way apparently, Ridley will be back on direction duties.....

if they can get HR Geiger (is he alive) to do the design work we could have another classic on the way...

idc:
maxflinn:idc:AVP2 is brilliant. I agree with some of the comments about acting and dialogue for the first film, the second is better that way. I really hope that there will be a third.if they do make a 3rd , maybe swine flu can play a part ? they could cast ricky gervais in the lead role ( as a human of course ) he could play an hour and a half long game of hide and seek with the hungry monsters , catch swine flu along the way , and sacrifice himself at the end , being scoffed , and giving all the alens , predators , hybrids , and everything else unhuman a deadly virus , a handful could survive though , just in case of avp4 being commishioned , then they could return with little curly tales , waiting outside greasy spoons to kill anyone that had bacon butties ..

AVP2 mixes a number of classic film themes; your typical American small town jocks vs geeks, good vs evil, survival against the odds and then gives it a twist. The Aliens films had the greatest female film leading character with Ripley. That continued into AVP, but in AVP2 the expected lead character is quite quickly killed off. Nothing is defined, the geek character is not that geeky, the jocks not that tough. Is the Predator good vs the Aliens evil? Is that man just hunting animals for sport, or defending himself against a deadly attack? Eat humble pie maxflynn!
no rick, he was deadly serious

Just so long as he doesn't put Russell "Accents" Crowe in it...

Hmmm tricky. I'm going to say

There Will Be Blood

The Dark Knight

Star Trek

based purely on films I could watch again and again, without issue, every day. Up is so very close to replacing Star Trek though.

'd at Avatar and not Gone in 60 Seconds, I mean it was an alright film but top 3 of the last TEN years?

Definitely No Country For Old Men, I can't think of many films I've seen in the last ten years that stand out to that extent though.

Ok just needed a bit of prompting... http://www.theyshootpictures.com/21stcentury_allfilms.htm

This isn't everything I've seen this decade obviously, in fact it isn't even everything in that list I've seen this decade, I took out the ones that really had no business being there:

No Country For Old Men,
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Royal Tenenbaums, The
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,
Donnie Darko
Incredibles, The
WALL-E
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,
Dark Knight, The
Wrestler, The
House of Flying Daggers
Shaun of the Dead
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Chicken Run
Casino Royale
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Slumdog Millionaire
King Kong
Monsters, Inc.

20, nice round number for the Long List, now Short List:

No Country For Old Men,
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Royal Tenenbaums, The
Incredibles, The
WALL-E
Wrestler, The
Shaun of the Dead
Casino Royale

down to 8. Best films of the decade, it's got to be something that really stopped me in my tracks, as they're all great films, no question, but the ones that really, really make you stop and think, or just say "Wow!". The first two are easy (in no particular order...)

No Country for Old Men,
WALL-E,

No Country, great story and some mesmerising performances, has to be there, the ending is perfect.

WALL-E, literally made me say "WOW!" several times and it made me laugh, and cry, must be included.

The last one though, hmmm, that gets trickier... it's not Casino Royale, it's not The Wrestler, both great films but didn't move me like the previous two, The Royal Tenenbaums is great fun but not quite there, so that leaves CTHD, The Incredibles and Shaun of the Dead. I love all these films and I've watched them all many times, in fact if it weren't for the two listed above they'd be my top 3 of the decade. Choose one, any one and the list would be fine but that's a cop out. No, I'm going to do it, I'm going to give two of the top 3 films of the decade to Pixar (I liked Toy Story 3 btw but not as much as the two here), my third choice is The Incredibles, it has so many levels to it, it's genuinely funny and moving, the action is outstanding and it's the film that every superhero movie wishes it could be, as well as quite a few Bond films come to think of it.

Yup, top 3 of the 21st Century, No Country for Old Men, WALL-E and The Incredibles.

There's a lot of films in the list attached that I haven't seen mind...

1) Kill Bill vol 1/2

2) Death Proof

3) Inglourious Basterds

What can i say i went to the London premiers of Kill Bill 1 and Inglourious Basterds and the Edinburgh film festival premier of Death Proof. I only go out of my way like this for Tarantino films so they are quite obviously my favourite films of the last decade.

Increbibles? Is that a cartoon version of the old testament, complete with a flying Moses?

Big Chris:

The Incredibles is far and away my fave of all the N.W.O.A.M (New Wave Of Animated Movies).

Why no Blu-Ray yet though?
emotion-40.gif

Pixar are unique in as much as they have never made a bad film.

Err, I might well be an idiot (might very well be in fact, I'm beginning to wonder...) but I'm not the sort of idiot that votes for films he hasn't seen...

Are you telling me you didn't like The Incredibles? WALL-E I can probably understand, it's not an action film and requires a modicum of patience but I can't see why you of all people wouldn't like The Incredibles.

I bet you're a fan of CARS though aren't you?

No, it's a sci-fi/horror in which churchgoers everywhere wake up one Sunday to find they've all been turned into giant books.
