I'd also like to vote for a slowing of film club pace, if only because I can't keep up.
I think we originally agreed to watch one film a month. At the time I suggested we might speed things up a little, but I fear we're now moving too quickly. One of the consequences is that we don't discuss the films in depth. (And I feel for Expat Mike, for whom timely delivery of films is subject to le branleurs.)

How do others feel about the speed at which we're moving through films? I feel like we barely scratch the surface in terms of discussion, before concluding "enough of that" and moving on.
Discussion also centres on questions of "what does the film mean," which is interesting enough, but a bit restrictive, and inevitably subjective.
I've actually seen two of these films, and the other is one of my wife's favourites, and she has the dvd.

The reason for the urgency is because Mike has struggled to get the films quickly, so this way atleast enables him to order the films ready to watch.
There's no rush to watch whichever one gets chosen, as nobody but myself and HFO has seen Monsieur Lahzar.

Regarding the speed at which we are getting through the films, I too think that we are trying to rush things.
As I understood things LQV was Octobers film, and Monsieur Lazhar is the November film, so we chose the film early, to give everyone a fair chance of obtaining and viewing the film during November. My disc is due to arrive on Saturday, so ordering well in advance has worked well this month.
JD's 3 films were to form the choice for December, so whilst it is good to vote soon, and get our orders in, there is no rush to watch the chosen film within the next 2 weeks.
Another reason why I do not feel the need to rush, is that the discussions about films on the forum, are revealing the names of other films (same director, genre etc) that sound like an interesting diversion, and of interest to watch. An example for me is BBBs suggestion of other Scandinavian films with similar gentle humour to Elling. I think one attraction of the film club is finding these cinematic diversions emerge, from the mainstream discussion - and it would be a pity to be in such a rush, that we did not take time to explore these diversions.
From a practical point of view, it sounds like some of us only get time to watch the films at weekends, so this also imposes a kind of limit on how fast we can view/discuss the films.
Now to investigate JDs nominations.........
It was my understanding that we wouldn't stick to a strict one film a month schedule, rather we'd move on to the next film once everyone had seen it.
If everyone wants to go back to this schedule, then I'm perfectly happy to do that.

Oddly, Battle Royale would have been my choice (followed by Princess Mononoke and Tzameti), but consensus ftw 🙂

Well you'll definitely be watching 13 Tzameti soon. I'm quite a fan of the film, and it will definitely raise some discussion points.

It was supposed to be a classic of the genre and groundbreaking to a degree. It didn't meet those high expectations. So whilst objectively it is a reasonable film I was left very disappointed. I found it repetitive, not well acted and lacking in ideas.
Having said that JD, I'd consider it a must watch film, I just wouldn't want to have done it for film club.

The ratio one film per month is ok by me, and is what all members agreed at the beginning, so no need to change that.
regarding SFC opinion that we should discuss in depth the movies is ok by me, but i really don't have nothing to add to SS+ or LQV beyond what have been said.

I think you've got it just about spot on there Ben, though the basic idea for the film is a good one.
