I proposed it first time round. You all picked the goat film instead!

I'm not even going to ask...

I think you should be required to watch it, as a form of Film Club membership initiation.

Does it get eaten by a Tyrannosaurus Rex?

No, but they do knock some stuff over and climb on a table.

Did they? It was more exciting than I thought then. *mosking*
You forgot the bit where the stone was knocked way from under the van, the can knocks over the fence, and the goats run amok. It was like the first twenty minutes of Saving Private Ryan. With goats.

*biggrin*

You're right, I'll have to watch it again.

Don't do that on my behalf Dave, and if it does get chosen, I'll try my best to watch it, but god help me if she sees it. It's not that my wife is in denial, it's just that she is tired of being blamed for something that happened a long time ago. I read a review on IMDb which was from someone who had seen the film in China, and they told of school trips to see the film. This isn't about education, this is all about anti-Japanese propaganda. The Chinese are teaching their kids to hate Japan, that is a fact, and there are regular attacks in China on Japanese businesses and people. My problem with watching this film, is it is being used to stir up anti-Japanese feeling, whether that was the director's aim or not.

To me it seemed as though it was presenting the facts of what happened - I don't know how accurate it is in general as I wasn't there and I hadn't even heard of the story it was telling until I ordered the film, but it seemed the type of film that was going for accuracy. I personally sided with the Japanese in this instance based on what the film was telling me. I certainly wouldn't have expected that any hatred still continues today.

I'll make another recommendation BBB as I totally understand your situation. Shall I also replace Under The Skin?

If you could change Under The Skin, that would be great, but please stick with the other, I'll just have to watch it in secret if it gets chosen. *biggrin*

This is just some of what has happened, and is still happening, a lot goes unreported in the west.

I agree with that, however I would suggest that Under The Skin may be a potential nomination in a few months, when it is more easily available cheaply in France.

Just a quick reminder. City Of Lost Children needs to be watched by the end of the month, and we could really do with David's choices as soon as possible. *wink*

I've got the film out ready to watch this weekend

Change of subject but I am reading the Guillermo del Toro book The Strain. I see its starting on Sky (Watch) in September. If its anywhere near as good it'll be a must watch.

I've just finished watching Confessions, a Japanese film which was part of the Film 4 revenge season. Well, there's no doubt about it, it's definitely a tale of revenge, but an unusual one, and quite hard hitting too. Not always easy to watch, but I'd recommend it to those of you who like a film that leaves you a little uncomfortable in your seat.

I'm thinking about ringing Frank Harvey Hi-Fi and asking David for his third film choice. Might be easier than posting here.

Please do, may be our only option.

I have put City of Lost Children as my next lovefilm selection, so assuming they have a copy in and I get a chance to watch one of my films this weekend, I should get it next week.

It'd be nice to have a chat... :)

Bear with me - been very busy recently with one thing or another - I'll be glad when August is behind me! When I chose those three, I thought about it a lot! I don't just want to replace it with something willy nilly. Fell asleep early last night too.

Just a heads up for those who haven't seen it (and those like me who have but would like a refresher) - Dogtooth is on on film 4 on Wednesday night.

I can't recommend it highly enough, a great film, which I have nominated previously as one of my choices.

I have just finished watching Lake Tahoe, and I really enjoyed it.

For one thing, it wasn't over long, which is nearly always good in my book, and it also has a gentle undercurrent of humour, with the very occasional laugh out loud moment. It's not exactly action packed, and it's unusually edited, but it has genuine warmth and heart, and I highly recommend it.

Sorry, wasn't around yesterday - was collecting a replacement bike from the other end of the world...updated!

City Of Life And Death http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124052/?ref_=nv_sr_1

A depiction of the 1937 war between Japan and China.

Snowtown http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1680114/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

It is worth watching the Bodies In The Barrells documentary, as for me, it helped with who was who, and also gives a little more to the true story of Australia's most notorious serial killer.

Requiem http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454931/

I've not seen it before, but I believe it is better than all the modern possession style cash in movies.

Requiem 3 points (sounds unexpectedly good looking at some critic review scores)

City 2 points (sorry BBB)

Snowtown 1 point (would happily nominate it myself but have seen it and would prefer to watch something new on someone else's selection)

I know I'm a dirty old man but I've been given the DVDs of Lip Service and I think this was a great tv series. Ok the lesbian themes are enticing in their own right but actually the plot sustains itself and the acting is superb.

If you buy it your girlfriend / wife will think the worst of you (I live alone so I don't give a s**t). But it's great drama.

Chris

PS Heather Peace who play Sam is a star recording artist. Perhaps the best contemporary British singer / songwriter?
