RTL:pre-1985, but any votes for Blake's 7?

I'll go with Blakes 7, used to be one of my fav programmes.Bit old hat now I suppose.

The new Battlestar Galactica is fantastic, I really liked Firefly, was absolutely gutted that it got cancelled after 12 or so episodes...

I think Babylon 5 and its epic 4 season story (with season 5 tagged on the end after they didn't get cancelled after all...) was responsible for other Sci-fi shows that came after tending to create larger story arcs rather than simply developing a setting and having stories lasting just 1 or 2 episodes. Which for me, is a very very good thing!

Star Trek Voyager too (but only for Jeri Ryan - she looked really hot in those tights as 7 of 9)

Now that's what I call a 'profile'!!! Damn!

I never got all the fuss about her, most of it was padding as far as I could tell.

Does Mork and Mindy count as sci-fi?

Oh personally I hate all thing Star Trek related, did enjoy Buck Rogers and the original Battlestar Galactica.

OK guys and gals, thanks for your input!

We've had a conflab here in the office and come up with a top-five list from your suggestions:
Battlestar Galactica (the new one - no, not Galactica 1980. That was awful)
Star Trek: TNG
Red Dwarf
Dr Who (the rebooted version, from Christopher Eccleston onwards)
Thunderbirds
Why these? Because we reckon they all represent some sort of watershed moment; they all had massive prime-time success, and all got non-sci-fi fans talking about them.

Others, such as Firefly and Stargate SG-1 came close, but we thought they were a bit niche for this list.

So - these are the five to choose from. Pick your winner!

Weird, I don't remember anyone mentioning Thunderbirds?

Hmm, DS9 got a lot more comments than anything else from what I can see, it wasn't massively mainstream (in this country anyway), I admit.

So - these are the five to choose from. Pick your winner!

What's the criteria again? Just our personal favourite, or most influential or what?

Hi,

Was my post on page 2 invisible - I spoke of the T-Birds...

Out of the 5 listed, the Thunderbirds would be my selection. The effects back then are as good as Dr. Who now...

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

One vote for Lady Penelope's pals, one (grudging) vote for Battlestar Galactica, then.

It's exciting this, isn't it...?

I'm going to permit myself a vote, too.

Thunderbirds - 1
BSG - 2

(And on an unrelated note, the trailer for BSG prequel 'Caprica' is on YouTube.... it doesn't look too bad. But it doesn't look great, either.)

And me...

Thunderbirds 5...

(Dramatic chord)

4...

3...

2...

1

(And on a related note, a clip of Cliff and the Shads in the original Thunderbirds Are Go! movie is on YouTube here)

No UFO or Space 1999 in the options !! String vests in the first and the latter should be there for being the most optimistic date-wise and for having Space in the title.

For the Niche market I was always a fan of the Tomorrow People.
