The best system I ever heard was based around a Unison Research Unico CD player, Unison Research turntable, Thorens phono stage, Unison Research valve amp, and a pair of Opera floorstanders. Whether playing CD or vinyl it sounded absolutely sublime.
Second best, and somewhat more affordable, was a combination of the Sugden Mystro CD and amp driving a pair of Focal floorstanders. Brilliant stuff.
