They’re considered classic cars now, and it’s the fault of people in mid-late 40s who can afford to massively overpay for a sentiment.

The MKI RS Turbos has always been silly money as not a whole lot of them on the road : unsurprisingly, a lot of them were lost to insurance write-offs after the owner wrapped it around a tree.

On Autotrader today, Alfa GTV V6 24V Lusso, 2002 claimed mileage less than 18k and only £14,000.

Damned sure I wouldn't buy an old Escort for £35k more...

Had a passenger ride in a bog-standard Fiesta last week, and Ford clearly has enjoyed a reputation for a good ride/handling balance since the original Mondeo and Focus. Wasn't at all impressed with the ride though, even though the roads in question were poor.

That's almost as much as a well-sorted Lotus Esprit. Ford or Lotus? What a stupid comparison. I know Lotus tuned and fitted a twin cam to the Cortina MK1 & 2 back in the 60s, nevertheless...

I don't understand why the Dagenham dustbins sell for so much. They were the choice of ram raiders, so many were stolen in London where I grew up. I have owned two: XR3 and XR4i. They were okay but nothing special.

Instead I preferred my two Dolomite Sprints. Just as fast as a Escort RS2000 and looked much sportier, especially on the outside. Yet you can pick up well sorted examples for £15-20k.

My son got an MG3 Hybrid Plus when they first came out a year ago. It easily averages 50 plus mpg, it can go like stink, Carwow timed a 0-60 in 6.7s and it has been faultless. The main flaw are the safety systems that new cars now get and how intrusive they can be.
