 Cheers ricky will take a look,Yep the whites for L + R fronts Black for Centre Have this sorted  not changing (hopes) now I just got to decide on the receiver and Blu- ray the Lx-85 combo because of price but we all know price's come down because Technology moves stores want to shift old stock etc ,with new Models to tempt us with but you pay premium for getting lattest newest models, but I'd pay the premium if I know its better and makes a difference, Example Denon 4520 just over £2k Pioneer Lx-85 £1200 at moment £1k jump maybe dealer will move a bit when I buy the whole lot 5.2 apex's receiver and Blu-ray talking what £5-7k with wiring Then there's the Onkyo 5010 £3k a £1k jump up yet again lol which is supposed to be amazing to throw in the decisions, you could sit and ponder for ever but I do take on board what people say it does help with the choice and rule out some and make you look at something you have not concidered, thanks to all with there inputs  really helps

StiGi, i advice you to buy Denon avr-4520 .I had Pioneer lX-83, sold it and got avr-4311, which is super outstanding for me.This is briliant maschine with Audyssey MultEQXT32.Remember, when you buying a receiver, you buiyng room calibration system first of all.I think room eq system is the main thing in receiver.Multeqxt32 i think is the best calibration system in nowadays( except very expensive high-end eq systems). And you can go to more advanced level - buy Audyssey Pro set..I congratulate everybody with APex thread rivaval!Lets play AC/DC "Highway to hell" at -0db... :rockout:

Hi Greedy thanks for your advice always welcome,Yes the more I read I'm likeing the Denon 4520 not a lot reveiws or info on it yet but what I've read I like.

As you know as models bring new technology into receivers and move forward these machines loose money fast you can buy like the Pioneer a £2k receiver and now its £1200 I have thought and thought talked to friends and others Some say its better to buy a High end Pre-amp as ric71 seems to have done in thread further up page your going keep this and then change the blu-ray only to get the latest technology as time moves on its just another option to weigh up but I still really like the looks of the 4520 visually with the matching Blu-ray player for connection jitter free playing. Take a Look at this if you have not seen it yet

Stigi, yes i allready saw avr-4520 and i like design very much. Its different from older Denons. It also has better DAC, than Avr-4311.Also Denons has very good thing -Audyssey Dynamic Volume, you can read about this..I am very happy with my 4311:)

I think another good receiver is ONkyo txnr5010 or 5009:)But they runs quite hot, Denon runs only warm:)

Another thing about Denons and Onkyos with Audyssey vs Pioneers with MCACC..I had pioneer lx-83.If you want get good results with MCACC- its hard to get best sound for me, a lot of tweaking need to do, and got bad result. For user this calobration system is difficult.Must do a lot of manuall tweaking.

Audyssey- no problem at all..Just run it..and got reference sound...its only my opinion

While the feature 'Dynamic Volume' in Audyssey is nice (I only use it while watching TV, never with movies or music) I would hope greedy means 'Dynamic EQ' (?) - because that is an amazing feature of Audyssey that makes all the difference to me. Seems to be something that no other brand offers.

However, apart from personal taste I know lots of people get excellent results from Yamahas YPAO, Pioneers MCACC and Anthems ARC. It also depends on the speakers being used, their placement and the room itself. I have tried all three of those systems with an open mind yet never been convinced by any of them. Not the same way I have been with Audyssey.

I also feel that with Apex (because it is a transparent type of speaker) small differences in settings/filters/EQ's are easily apparent. Apart from that it needs to be said that while a calibration system can do a lot of good a well-balanced and acoustically corrected room is always a superior solution! I've experienced a few of those at demos and friends places and you'd be amazed at how fantastic a treated room can make the audio shine (without any EQ!). But in most normal living rooms (my own included) that is difficult to achieve.

I will agree with greedy though that if you pick a Pioneer and don't get along with MCACC off the bat - be prepared to do alot of EQ-tweaking and adjustments to tailor it to your particular taste (something I don't have any knowledge of myself so I avoided that while testing them).

Guys if you are serious about room EQ then your only real viable options IMHO are Audyssey XT32 or Anthems ARC. Both of these will easily outperform anything else on the market unless you start looking at Dirac or Trinnov which are on processors costing £15k and up.

Anthems ARC used in conjunction with Paradigms Perfect Bass Kit have transformed my listening experience. XT32 is similar though not as user adjustable unless you add pro. They will both give fantastic results.

The new Denon does indeed look excellent and I would take that over the Pioneer just for the XT32.

 Can anyone tell me and I'm sure one you fine pips will be able with all your knoledge :) Can the Apex be used in a Bi Amp set up ? To get the most out of the front Speakers To do this front speakers need to be Biwireable ? Hmmmmmm This is how it reads
Bi-Amping allows you to use any spare amps you have on your A/V Amplifier to get the most out of your front speakers. To do this your front speakers need to be biwireable (Have two sets of terminals marked HF and LF) and you need to run bi-wire cable. You also need to have two spare channels. So for example if your are using only 5.1 speakers you can use the other two channels for Bi-Amping[/b]

Hey stigi  I believe the answer is in the text you supplied ;) None of the Apex models have dual speakerwire terminal connections, hence you cannot bi-wire or bi-amp them. This is simple to see on any speaker; if there is only one set of terminal connections on the back or two sets.

Hello!

I currently have an Arcam AVR350 with Quad L-ites 5.1 and I'm looking to replace my front 3 speakers. As the speakers will need to be wall mounted, I'm considering the Apex. For now I will only be replacing the LCR speakers with perhaps the sub and sourrounds in the next year (so the Quad L-ite sub will have to do for now).

I can most probably afford 3 x A40's but I'm concerned that perhaps I cannot fit all 3 and may have to buy a pair of A10's instead for left and right. See the below image.

I'm planning to mount my screen above a radiator and is it is 194cm (76.5") wide. Unfortunately it is the only wall in the room where the screen will fit. To the left of the screen is my 46" TV which is wall mounted. I sit 11" from the screen which means the left/right speakers should be around 9" apart optimally.

So my dilemma.

1) Buy 3 x A40's and mount them all horizontally under the screen with around a 5cm (2") cap between them. One issue: with the speakers so close together, will that ruin the soundstage?

2) Buy 3 x A40's and mount the centre under the screen and the left/right speakers vertically high up so the top of the speakers are in line with the top of the screen. Two issues: a) Will sounds bounce off the back of the TV on the left hand side and b) with the speaker that high, how do I angle the two vertical speakers down slightly to point at the listening position.

3) Buy 3 x A40's and mount them all horizontally with the left/right above the screen and the centre below it.

4) Buy 2 x A10's as left/rights and do either 1) or 2) above.

One other question..... how will the Apex speakers react to being mounted above a radiator and have warm air rising around it? I'm sure they must be designed to be used in hot countries where the air temperature would be warmer than anything coming off he radiators?

Appreciate any and all input!

Stigi> In my country each cost( amp or processor) about 5900 pounds its reference level(look at the construction of each), i dont know how much in UK.You also may buy Audyssey Pro kit with this combo..Dont worry about your wife in this aspect- you are man, you must be the boss, when talking about audio/video!!

This made me laugh. I have to do this all the time, I supposedly paid £250 for a pair B&W 683's I once had, £400 for my CA 751, my marantz was £400, lol etc etc.

A definite divorce headed my way if she knew the true prices, lol.
