Dilema! Was previously going to buy chord supershield HDMI cable to go with my S370 and not yet bought lgpk990 but keep hearing good things about ''thatcable''. Think i need two possibly three of them and was wondering if anyone had any advise on them ,spend 15 pounds or 150 pounds.

Are you really going to see a 150.00 difference, I doubt it. I have 3 thatcables, and great service and great cables and paid 15.00.

if you have 150 to spend on 3 hdmi cables, then I would spend 15.00 for thatcable and 135.00 for new kit, or beer

15, no question. Look at the big question in the July edition, you would be mad to buy the Chord.

Thats fair enough. Dont really wanna spend 150 pound if i dont have to but will if i need to. Its all going to be new kit aswell.

True i have that edition aswell forgot about that.

Basically it just said that the more exspensive cables eg chord etc only made a little improvement with sound and the the picture was much better with the cheaper 'thatCable' but then again thats three peoples opinion, but they pretty much said the same thing.

I recently just got the Chord Company Supershield by subscribing to What Hi-Fi. Its apparently a great HDMI cable but to be honest i have never even used it, its just gathering dust. This is because i have four other better cables. The Supershield isn't that expensive compared to other 5 star rated cables and it is recommended that you spend at least £50 on an HDMI cable - so i guess the Supershield fits the bill perfectly. Still...its all about personal preference.

"it is recommended that you spend at least £50 on an HDMI cable"

By whom and on what evidence? Shouldn't quality be the criteria rather than price in any case?

The evidence is in the What Hi-Fi magazines. Thats the evidence - and i don't write the magazines, just repeating what i read.

And even on quality, the Chord Supershield is superior to ThatCable according to the magazine.

The evidence is that the vast majority of people cant tell the difference between HDMI cables.

Instead of beating your brow as to which cable to use spend a little more time on the set up. Either use the Digital Video Essentials disc or the THX set up on some DVDs. That will give you much more rewarding results.

I dont have it.

Whats wrong with chord?

Absolutely nothing

I used That cable to and from the a/v amp with the S370, and replaced the cable from the BD player to the amp with Chord Supershield as I feel I get a definite up lift in sound dispersion and effects, slight uplift in PQ with keeping That cable to the tv from the amp

No doubt That cable has it's place........................as do all the others, my personal experience is that SQ is better via the Chord, no much in it for PQ

so thats the whsv magazines view but it is not mine hdmi makes no difference at all to sound or vision
honest its true.

I really hope we are not going to start this again?

Some people can see a SMALL difference, some cant... Simples.

Is it worth you paying 50.00 - 200.00 for 1 hdmi cable? ... It all depends on your budget and your bank roll.

I have a basic job and cant afford stuff like that, so I buy 5.00 a cable stuff.

if I had a million and needed 10m + hdmi cable, then yes maybe I would spend that bit extra, over that lenght, but nothing 1-2m

Why do you people get caught up in unnecessary disputes? I'm not the one contemplating which cable to buy here, as i already have my set-up made. I was merely giving my opinion. So nobody I'm not beating my brow over anything. READ all posts before making your own, only then will you know who is asking and who is telling.

We don't say you have to spend at least £50 on an HDMI cable - otherwise we wouldn't have given five stars to the That Cable HDMI.

All depends on your personal preferences and the components in question.

Just a friendly word, 1080p Suspect - if the tone of your posts was less blunt/hostile, you may get less (over)reaction.

But please try to understand, why must people reply to me specifically when I'm posting in general? Just post your opinion and only reply when someone is specifically talking to you. Now i look like the bad guy when I'm not.

Like this you mean?

Thing is when you're making blanket statements like "you should spend at least £50 on an HDMI cable, WHF say so!" you're going to get people challenging that, so you need to be able to back it up with some facts. You can't make statements like that and expect people to just let them go unchallenged, especially, as Clare has pointed out, when WHF have given a 5 star rating to a 5 quid cable.

When you're making the statements, who else are people supposed to reply to? Don't get offended, that's how a conversation works...

Components in question are the 2310,S370 lgpk990.

So.................after all that, I would suggest the Chord Supershield to the Amp (£50.00) and That Cable from the amp (£5.00) to the TV

That's an average price of £27.50 for what I believe is best PQ and SQ to the amp, and then very good PQ to the TV for the 2 cables

A very workable compromise!

If at some stage in the future you could replace the That Cable (maybe borrow one to see if there is any significant difference that you are prepared to invest in) but in the meantime you have a good solution

Oh, and it works for me..................regardless of any comment, which after all is what it's about.

Good luck
