I'm not going to dispute that many people can't spot any difference between a £5 HDMI cable and a cable costing ten times as much.

As a rule, reviews in the mag evaluate a product based on its performance against rivals in a similar price bracket, so logic would dictate that a five star rated £50 lead would outperform a five star rated £5 lead. I'm not sure how easy it is to evaluate the performance of HDMI cables in a price/performance context though...

I've tried HDMI cables in different price brackets with my kit and I genuinely couldn't tell the difference. The only point I would make is that one of the cheaper HDMI cables I initially used caused problems with drop-outs in sound and picture; but assuming a cable doesn't create such issues I think the differences are barely detectable (if at all). Perhaps HDMI cable price/quality becomes more relevant with very high-end kit and huge screens and projectors, but if you're not in the market for such products, I'd save yourself some dough and go with the ThatCable option...

bigboss:I haven't found any difference between ThatCable, Chord Supershield & QED Performance HDMI cables on my setup (see below).

And so we go on.................has to be very subjective no matter what you do.

Maybe you can compare a couple of HDMI leads at eah end of the price point you have in mind, and return what you don't need/want.

That way you'll know that YOU have done the best you can.

That Cable at £4.99 for 1,5m is a no brainer, go and buy, then try out the Chord Supershield (don't spoil the packaging and then you can return if it's not up to scratch)

If digital cables (copper and optical), interconnect cables, speaker cables, bi wiring etc can make a difference, then why not HDMI connectors, all are carrying various degrees of information either as electrical current/voltage or as packets of data and Yes they are all affected by the medium they are transported by.

This is precisely the point, i did not say ever "you should" spend at least £50. I said it is RECOMMENDED that you spend at least £50 on an HDMI cable, like it says in the magazine. Is that not mentioned somewhere among some issues or am i mistaken? Honestly, there is a difference between telling and recommending. So what have i done so wrong?

Nothing mate, it's that you posted on a cable thread like I do and in the end you wished you never had lol.

I can't remember the magazine ever saying that.

So what have i done so wrong?

Made a statement as if it was fact that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Anyway don't go getting so sensitive about it, nobody else cares.

I dont. and I wont buy 100.00 hdmi cable, you might, andrew might, clare might. the_lhc might not.

Its all about personal preference.

If eveyone could see an amazing difference there would be no argument, but the changes if any are minut, and you need to ask yourself, is it worth it for me and my equipment.

No - you wouldn't remember. Didn't state anything was factual, perhaps people don't actually read the magazines. Truly end of discussion. Don't want people to care, just want people to drop it.

Meaning what exactly?

Didn't state anything was factual, perhaps people don't actually read the magazines.

We apparently read them more than you do, given that you were seemingly unaware of the glowing review given to a 5 quid cable...

Truly end of discussion. Don't want people to care, just want people to drop it.

Don't make statements you can't uphold then, it's quite simple but when I said people don't care I meant plenty of people make statements here that have no foundation and they don't care, ie don't get so upset, when people query them on it, so stop acting so hurt, it isn't the big deal you're making it out to be.

I've never actually bought an hdmi cable at all! The Chord Active on my BDP was from the magazine, the other one on the Sky box (Pure something or other) was given to me by someone who didn't need it any more.

I like you. You talk like people should bow down to you as they pass you in the street

Yes we read the mags, and yes we can 'think for ourselves' too

If everything I read I believed, 99% of my knowledge would be utter BS

Yes, this is about gas mark 7 I reckon. At gas mark 8, AE and co. start going into overdrive on the Moderation front...
