Not sure that’s downsizing ?
🤣🤣🤣To answer the question in the title of this topic: NO...
Off thread but I shipped out of the uk to DUBAI fir many years,Thanks for the replies everyone - loads of useful food for thought here.
I think in reality it'll come down to a few options. It's either sell my gear now & buy something super budget to tide me over in the meantime, or like @Jasonovich said to try and leave some of it in a garage until I come back for it.
When it comes to the vinyl question, I'm tempted to try and sell the turntable first to see if I miss it. Time isn't exactly on my side though. Shifting expensive hifi, guitars, and hundreds of records is hardly going to be the quickest process. I guess if I delay my decision making enough I'll be forced to beg friends & family for storage space knowing I've got some fun things to return to 😁 - at the same time, freeing up some cash is something I'm definitely going to need to do, being self-employed. Opportunities at the other end for me, but no guarantees. It's just that I'm at a rare point in my life where I have the option to try.
Oh...and there was me hoping you might be about circumnavigate the globe in a sail boat.I’d love to live on a boat! Unfortunately less fun than that, an opportunity to potentially work abroad for a while.
@Pedro2 & @The_Lecht_Rocks I think with some listening I could find a streaming pre-amp that competes against the Organik dac. Chord use similar tech, but they’re not going to be cheap. I paid £5k for the Linn ex-demo, so if I went up to £3k I think that would leave a healthy range of models to explore. Will also need to research what brands I could get/listen to easily from the new part of the world.
And a Happy New Year to all.Oh...and there was me hoping you might be about circumnavigate the globe in a sail boat.
Anyhow best of luck with the work abroad and Happy New Year to ye.
Tidal has a Yacht Rock playlist for when you’re readyThanks @JDl happy new year to you too! Still not in a boat. But I do look forward to my future “what stereo for a yacht?” thread, although that might be one for 2027 or beyond 🙂
Wiim amp pro + dali menuet if it's still £599 + a subThanks for the replies everyone - loads of useful food for thought here.

Sounds exciting. No real advice but whichever way you go, good luck!I've been presented with an option for a completely new life adventure. One that would mean I couldn't reasonably take my belongings with me. It's coincided quite nicely with a nagging feeling that my ever growing collection of vinyl, books & guitar paraphernalia isn't sparking joy as most of it sits unused/unloved.
The idea of downsizing my vinyl is pretty stressful, so I'm actually considering selling all of it & my turntable. Which gets me to my question...
My current streaming setup is Linn Selekt DSM w/ Organik dac into ATC SCM40a. I love the sound. I don’t ever know how to describe sounds, it feels really refined, tonnes of detail & the dac has an analog sounding warmth. If I were to look for a similar streaming amp (no need for phono input) & possibly some less cumbersome speakers, is there a way to achieve a similar sound for a lot less money?
For example, I do love the sound of the Gold Note IS-1000. It's possible to get a second-hand one of those for about £2k. What passive speakers might get me a similar sound for around the same budget? I suppose some smaller ATCs might be the answer. That’s still £4k or so. What would £3k buy?
Also interested in experiences with chifi etc, and bookshelf speakers would definitely be considered as part of this. I'm getting way ahead of myself, but it's sort of a fascinating thought experiment. And it would be a brilliant excuse to get to some shops & demo stuff 😎
