Reading through the latest mag section on Sound Advice. Question from 'tonye' who wants a system that will play MP3/FLAC/WAV files via USB. You've recommended the Teac Ref 600 as being able to do this. When I was looking for a system with USB on it the manufacturers spec on all the ones I looked at would only rate the USB input up to 320mp3 and 192wma. Just want to check that the new Teac really can take FLAC and WAV on the USB input.

Putting this up on a Friday afternoon might not have been a great idea. WHF experts probably all gone home. Is there someone who can check out this new Teac to see if it can take WAV / FLAC on the USB input?

Apologies to you, 8009514, and Tonye too - the TEAC USB input is indeed only good for MP3/WMA files. There's nothing around at Tonye's £1000 budget that can deal with FLAC or WAV via USB as far as I know.

It was my name on the Sound Advice answer, so I'll be the one in the safety jacket sweeping leaves in the Haymarket carpark by way of reparation.

Thanks for quick response Simon. Didn't honestly think the Teac would cope with Wav/Flac.Be a great step forward if affordable kit was produced that could handle those types of files through the USB port. What can the Naim Uniti cope with on the usb input?

So hows the car park looking then? Nice and tidy by now I should think.

The Uniti can cope with WAV, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis and the rest, as long as there's no DRM involved.

The carpark's a work in progress. It's been such a long time since I did community service, my broom skills are rusty.

You can come back in now, Simon...
