My system... Marantz cd63 ki quad 44 & 303 with Kef 104ab speakers. Everything was clear & big but really cold. Treble frequencies harsh. I've since sold the kef's. Quite frankly I'm confused in what to do?? I listen to classic albums , classical music & modern stuff like gorillaz etc. Should I match the marantz with say Arcam 9 or 10 which speakers? or keep the quads & buy quad speakers???

Try some Quad electrostatics. They have a magical midrange.

They'd be far too hard to drive, I reckon, with the quad power amp.

Sounds to me like you want more warmth from the system, getting a hold of an Arcam amp would solve this. Perhaps look for an Alpha 10 for sale somewhere, or an A85 and see what you think of them.

If you google "Quad 303 electrostatic" you'll find plenty of reports from people who are happily using 303's with electrostatics.

Quad made the 303 at the same time as the ESL 57's. I can't see a well respected company like Quad having incompatible power amps and speakers.

Symphonies now sound fantastic! I hooked up some Quad 22l2 speakers with my Quad 44 & 303....warmth, clarity, surperb :boohoo: !!! The 22l2's are mighty fine speakers & the finish is second to none...
