Hello guys , I'm currently looking to upgrade my sub and i'm looking really closely at the SVS flagship. From what I have read this thing is pretty astounding for the price and what it can acheive! I dont see much about SVS on this forum but would appreciate any veiws, I have looked at the new S5 REL and JL Audio although seems expensive ofr the quality but open minded.

We are limited being all the way down under but we still get alot of quality gear down this way

cheers

As bogboss knows, I have two SVS subwoofers, the PC12-Plus in the kitchen and the old style (750W, with BASH amplifier) PC13-Ultra in the parlour. I am very happy with both, and I personally prefer the cylinder style to the box style, though I concede that the box style is slightly the better. However, like a good forumite, I must also mention the REL S5, which (in the UK at least, can't speak for Australia or New Zealand!) is a very similar price to the SVS PC13-Ultra, see this very good Home Cinema Choice review. You can find lots of highly favourable reviews of the SVS subwoofers on google. Oh, make sure that you are clear about the difference between the SB13 and the PB13.

Jl Audio technically from a design point of view and manufacturing quality all done in house is probably the best sub out of these, I say probably because I have not heard one.

There some interesting videos to watch on how they make them and they have very good patents on them.

However they do not measure the best - but they have torodial transformers, big powerful amps and probably the best actual sound quality - but again they advise on 2 of them so big ££

SVS box clever - making very good products for cheap. I have been super impressed with my SB13 Ultra - I was dead set on getting a JL F113 originally but the price kept me out of owning it as I needed I felt to upgrade other areas as well so with that cost on top it was too much for me

I got the SVS on home demo and never felt the need for anything else after and I am a bass quality freak - far more so than most. I do tend to buy expensive kit but I found the SVS for money outstanding, and outstanding overall - the price would not have made me keep it, only the performance. 2 SB13 Ultra would be insane in a small room

If you want ported I dare say the PB13 Ultra with all the extra efficiency of a ported design would be very good indeed.

One review says it turns the room into one big massage chair - thats exactly what my SB does but with pin point accuracy as well. I cant wait to get my room back.... big withdrawals now

For what the SB13 Ultra offers in comparison to many competitors, it is the one to beat really (13.5" driver for £1500) - as mentioned above, the next step is the Ken Kreisel DXD12012 (dual 12" drivers for a little over £2k).

Thanks guys , I have heard the SB13-ultra and can say its impressive but I am leaning towards the PB as its still their Flagship product and as has been pointed out it would take 4 SB13-Ultra's to achieve the low bass of 1 PB,also the pitch definition and headroom, and dynamics is astounding with the PB . I have had a couple of REL's , Storm 5 and 3 , loved the Storm 5 so getting a S5 is still in my minds eye but for home theatre and music im leaning towards the PB or 2. thanks for your comments guys , appreciated.

David if you can arrange sending me a DXD1202 I will fairly compare it to an SB13 Ultra and report back whats better - completely honestly.

I would set them both up equally as well in the same fashion, in a good room and see who comes out on top.

Then just need a JL F113 to test against as well

To the op - if your heart is set on a Ported sub dont let anyone steer you off - I have never had the guts to buy one so fair play to you

I'd love to, and if we were Ken Kreisel dealers, I'd have no hesitation in doing so! I'm afraid at the moment, it is a case of ordering from a European distributor on a buy and try basis - of course, if you were to send it back to them, you'll have to send it back to Norway. Useless situation for Britain, but Ken Kreisel is fully aware of my feelings on the situation.

Hi David

I guessed it wouldnt be possible which is a shame - BB was salivating over the prospect of a showdown.

He would have come to mine for a listen then for sure :)

Your Mind I thought was made up to it was a good time to argue with BB over which sub is Better the SVS or DXD.

As were both now skint he will have to take my word for it that the SVS is better :)

Let us know how you get on with the PB - please post some measurements once you get it in if you can so we can see the freq response and how deep it goes in your room.

Obviously sound quality is of interest as well

hi there,I wouldn't say my mind was made up but have said I was leaning towards the PB SVS as it seems by all that is written and reviewed it ticks all the box's for performance.I dont have an opinion on the DXD as I have not heard 1 and would say its not available where I am.I have heard good things about M&K subs and KK but spending alot more money for small %tage gains is not viable to my situation at this time.I read a good review of both the SB and PB on Audioholics and they rate the PB well above the SB as do most who have revieed the big beast , Im not to sure what issues their are with the ported over sealed discussion as with the PB you can seal it off at 20HZ with their foam plugs and no 1 has ever mentioned it being an issue with the PB that im aware off.If I am to change my mind I think that i would very much consider the REL S5. You know 20 years ago their was alot of subwoofer bashing going on and audiophiles decried their use for purist reasoning but today you would be hard pressed not to find agreement of the benifit in music reproduction.Today we are blessed with a great many quality brands doing good work and offering the end user vast choice of quality depth. Its not hard to find good bass! ... Disposable income though is another matter all together!!!!

this post is to all...appreciate all your views and handbag swinging.

cheers from Kiwiland
