Surge Protector

I was considering getting this for my TV, DVD Player and Freeview PVR and wondered whether any of you have this and what would you recommend? I liked the look of the Belkin Pure AV Home Theatre Surge Protector and they have one with an Isolator although I don't really know what this does? A bit worried though as someone told me there were reports in the USA of Belkin damaging equipment? Would really appreciate advice. Thanks!
