Help needed please. If the controller handset says that files are 24 bit via the + sign information does that mean they are definitely being played or is it just embedded information and they could actually be playing at another resolution? I ask because I have been distinctly underwhelmed by some 24 bit files. Whilst we are at it most available downloads are not my musical cup of tea, lots of Jazz and Classical, are there sites for indie, pop ,rock etc.? Thanks.

The Receiver can play 24bit, but only up to a sample rate of 48Khz. If the tracks are 88.2, 96Khz, they will be resampled down to 48Khz on the Squeezebox Server before streamed to the Receiver.

TBH hi-rez only makes sense for music with large dynamic range. Rock/pop that's been mastered to be at the limiters all the time is wasted.

Thanks amcluesent. I am sure more 24 bit downloads will become available in time when you consider all the vinyl remasters that have been done over the years.
