My sub is about 2 metres from my amp and i have been offered a good 5 metre cable, will this be alright or should i buy a 2 metre one.

Andrew Everard:Looping up spare cable is asking for hummmmm problems...

I have an HDMI cable that I have looped up but did not notice any inferior picture or sound quality - Is this advisable? How will a looped up cable cause problems?

Thanks.

A HDMI cable is a digital cable so it doesnt suffer from interferance like analogue cables do, where as a subwoofer cable is analogue and can suffer from interferance. Looping the cable can make it act like an arial picking up static from near by equipment, which is what can cause the humming effects mentioned earlier.

As far a the OPs question, if the 5 meter cable is free then give it a whirl, if you notice any issues then get a shorter one. I have used longer cables before with no noticable issues so it is possible.ÿ

Buy the correct length cable. Apart from possible interference issues, it will look untidy! If you have as much kit as I do, try to keep the lengths as short as possible, it looks like a snakes wedding at the back of my rack!
