Stereo dacs in AV amps

Hi,

I'm sure this is contentious, but can anybody give me a general idea what the stereo dacs are like in multichannel recievers such as the Yamaha 3900 / Pioneer LX81 / Sony ES5400 etc. or would I still end up buying an external dac like the dacmagic and use stereo direct?

Hello,

I send PCM to my amplifier, using its DACs. I'm happy with the results, and get what I consider to be a clear, detailed, and musical sound.

My amplifier is a Marantz, so that probably helps from a musicality perspective, but it was around £800 when new, so I would think your amplifiers would potentially do better, being more expensive.

I think you might get away without an extra DAC. I'd demo if I were you.
