Hi all,

I am seeking for advise.

I have a TV and 2 Bose ceiling speakers installed on the first floor. These speakers are connected to a Denon AVR downstairs via RCA cables that are hidden behind the walls. Unfortunately, I don't have the option to re-route or add more RCA cables without significant renovation work.

My TV is connected to the AVR via HDMI ARC, and I have 3 HDMI cables running from the TV location to the AVR, though I’m only using one of them right now. So in total I have a 2-speakers setup (Left and Right), with the centre channel being split between them.

I’d like to upgrade the setup by adding a subwoofer and a dedicated centre speaker for a more immersive sound experience. Is there any way I can utilize the spare HDMI cables or perhaps use HDMI pass-through features or HDMI to RCA converters to connect additional speakers and subwoofer to the AVR? I’m open to adding extra devices if needed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The usual way is to have a 6 or 8 channel AV Receiver and wired passive speakers. Some support active wireless rear channel speakers and a soundbar. It might be worth investigating those options.

Also consider WiSA. WiSA is a wireless transfer of up to 11 channels for 5.1 or 7.1 type systems. A WiSA speakers has a receiver built in and there are powered WiSA in ceiling and in wall speakers. The speakers start at modest levels but include top of the line £125,000 monsters (weighing 137kg each). Besides new there are choices around on the second hand market. I have mixed 30 year old active speakers with 2022 new WiSA speakers all over WiSA with products from three manufacturers. i.e. you are not stuck with only components from manufacturer. The advantage could be being able to add rear and side channel into the mix without the long signal cables all around the walls. You do need active or powered speakers so a mains cable to each speaker. Soundsend WiSA transmitter uses HDMI and the Axiim Link USB (from LG TV and computers or Xbox). There are other choices.
