Stereo Amp & AVR Same Main Speakers

My AVR seems to be my limitation on upgrading my stereo but there's no way I could have 2 sets of main speakers in the lounge.
Is there any way to easily switch between the 2 without any risk of damaging one or the other if they were left on by mistake?

You could use the front line out of the AVR to feed one of the inputs to the power amp. It depends what amp the AVR is really.
