PCs evolve and i presume its not economically viable to keep these products running year on year out unless there is significant change to it to them, unlike hi-fi.

I don't think it was anywhere near as popular as our little geeky world made it seem. A little while back, quite a few shops near me sold them. Eventually they all stopped selling them. Likewise Airport Express, I can only think of two places here that sell them and one of them is our Apple store.

Our HMV is clearing out a lot of this sort of stuff. They've even been clearing out their Sonos stock (with exception of Play:3 and 5) even though Sonos is seemingly very popular here. They have Bridges for a tenner, might go pick up a couple just for the sake of it.

Really? Hmmm, I might wander over to our local on the way home, just on the offchance, I want to add another zone but the room it'll go in can't reach the other players, a couple of well placed bridges might fill that hole. It's true you don't see the non-Play Sonos devices as much as you used to, they tend to be confined to the more traditional hi-fi dealer these days.

That may be because Sonos has recently changed its distribution model in the UK - other than specialist retail, it's primarily selling direct

Google it, then go correct everyone else (Apple, various magazines, shops, etc) who have also made this grave error. Should give you no end of fun :)

I was interested in the background photo Logitech UE are using of the Red Sands fort ...

http://ue.logitech.com/en-gb

Are they trying to associate themselves with the era of Pirate Radio in the 1960s? (Red Sands fort hosted 'Radio 390' and a couple of others between 1964 - 1967).

They certainly don't seem to be aiming their new kit at modern 'yoof' with images of rusting Maunsell Forts that ceased activity as Pirate Radio stations 45 years ago.

Why would you only consider a SBT for the short term? They won't suddenly stop working when Logitech stop making them.

Very true though in the long run support (if its needed) will disappear along with any chance of repair and used ones will be around for some time.

Buying used doen't put me off as long as the manufacturer still support the product, i've done it with MF, Chord and Naim to name a few though the ex-demo O2M around at the moment looks tempting at the price just not my colour preference. I've emailed Olive regarding the DAC bypass and what would happen if you fed it a 24 192 file, waiting on a response.

Okay, digital outs are good for bypass with all material above 96khz downsampled. Looks a nice bit of kit for the money, even nicer ex-dem >)

I have a feeling these companies are aware of a new technology coming out soon.

Watch this space!!;)

Nah, I think they stopped selling them because there wasn't demand. Our HMV are currently clearing out all their 'obselete' MP3-related stock (docks, headphones, etc) at silly prices, and the other shops mostly stopped selling this sort of thing a while ago. One of the places that did the AE stopped selling it when they brought out the n version, as they still had a load of g versions left in stock. They all reduced them to get rid.

Which new technology are you referring to? Share with the group :)
