Being able to just sit and find new music and artists on my phone then listen through my stereo ( lovely old term ) is something when I was young wasn't even dreamt off now we take these things for granted. In fact tonight I'm listening to the human league dare which I haven't heard in 30 years, next Japan or bauhaus for a nostalgia filled evening. It doesn't matter what my amp or speakers are it's just nice to let them do what they do. Just a thought. :-D

Absolutely agree, love it to bits.

Weight training a few days ago to Tin Drum.

Spotify offline, iPod Touch.

Which reminds me, must sync something decent for the morning.....*music2*

+1

(albeit have Tidal now, but whichever does this...)

Was listening to Jamie Cullum's excellent hour long A to Z of jazz from BBC Radio player (ipad / Airplay), heard some new artists I really liked, so looked the albums up there and then on Tidal. Lovely to have that flexibility. I do the same reading equipment reviews (Stereophile's one particularly good one for this), where they mention some of their far-out test tracks that are far from mainstream, and it's great to just look them up and play them. Some of it's not to my taste, but you find some real gems that way too.

CD's were my main source for almost 30 years, so I still have a fondness for them, but it would have been much harder to track down so much little-known music years ago.

Whether Spotify, Tidal, Deezer et al are sustainable is another debate, but for now, from the music lover's perspective, yes, it is indeed fantastic.

Spotify is brill. I don't listen to music as much as I should, but every now and then, something pops in my head and nine times out of ten (or better), Spotify has it. Great for discovering new music without the pain of buying before you try.

Dave, if you like Japan, check out David Sylvian if you haven't already. I really like 'Secrets Of The Beehive'

Yes that's the thing I bought a technics cd player around 1990ish and stopped playing vinyl but didn't replace the records with cds so now loads to catch up with ho hum well loads of winter nights to play old and new. :-D

It's revolutionary... I always think back when in years gone by when visiting the large HMV in town I used to think to myself, wouldn't it be great if I could go through all these CD's... now I can at the click of a button in the comfort of my own home.

Indeed, but the really interesting stuff is the collaborations with Riuchi Sakamoto. Which of course leads to other japanese artists, Stomu Yamash'ta for example.

The wonders of Spotify.....*dance4*

When I was say 19 I earned £30-35 per week then I lived at home still and with smokes and regular nights at the old frog and frigate money didn't go to far. Even now at £5-10 a cd, a tenner a month for unlimited music it's almost like theft 🙂

Got me beaten??? New music is things you listened to 30 years ago???

Agree with the sentiments though. Outstanding value for money. Spotify pay out $1 billion a year in royalties, so good for the music industry too, if only they realised it.

+1 for Spotify while I had it and now +1 for Apple Music.

I keep wondering when someone will find out what I am getting out of this and stop me.

I am still comparing Tidal free trial with Spotify Premium.

I prefer Spotify's interface, radio and artist suggestions plus quicker response time (although Tidal loads faster) but can just about determine sound differences. This mostly affects bass and treble in favor of Tidal but it is subtle.

Even at £20/month (but especially at £10 for SP) these services represent super value for money imo. I appreciate these amounts of money can be a lot for some, me included, but I make more than good use of it.

I used to spend that on CD's in the past, and as I discovered when I got them home, not all of them were listenable, or maybe had 1 or 2 stand-out tracks on the entire album.

The old guard will hate you for that! We are all supposed to touch and rub the 'tactile' CD jewel case ( the ones that survive the rigours of postage without shattering), then we are supposed to play every album all the way through, without skipping any tracks, to get the full impact of the artist's vision! (I can't even write it with a straight face.)

Mmmhh, must be officially old then ...

To truly 'relax into music' I can't keep skipping tracks.

It's ok to scan possible buys or to compile a play list but otherwise, its an album in its entirety, good and not so good tracks.

Bad enough to have to turn an LP halfway through.

Had on cd for years and one of my favouriteS but always skipped first two tracks I feel so bad now thinking I've let them down 🙁
