Monitor speakers vs hifi speakers. Thats the question on my mind if im after a pair of speakers for superior sound say from a computer whats the best in terms of quality? I need advice and help in general regarding differences. Thanks in advance!

It all depends on how you like your music presented ie. Very neutral, warts and all; or warmer, smoother and easier on the ear....or maybe somewhere in between.
IMO. Forget about "best" and go with "preferable" (to your taste)....as it's you that have to listen to it, day in and day out.

Generally, as Cno explained above, with the studio monitor type being the more analytical. However, there are many flavours of each, so you really need to either come to your own view by listening, or be more specific about your needs. These days the two types have come closer in some cases because powered speakers ( with built in amplifiers) are popular for computer stored music playback. And confusingly 'monitor' was often a label attached to hifi speakers to imply better quality, whereas you probably mean the type favoured in studios, which typically come from music equipment shops rather than hifi stores.Daniel 1 said:

The smallest SN4a is fine for a desktop, the bigger models require proper mounting (stands) to give of their best. Inexpensive and ridiculously good value for money.
If you wish to spend more, then there are plenty of options up to about £2-3k, above which my preference begins to swing back to conventional amplifier/speaker combinations.
