I am drawing up a potential demo list of speakers to match

a a Rega RP3 / Brio-R pairing.

I haven't seen any mention of Kef (Q300 / Q500) with Rega kit.

Is there a good reason? Other than Rega's own speakers, does

anyone have a suggestion? Musical taste is eclectic, from opera

to Metallica and all else between (except country!!). Ideally they

should be happy fairly close to a wall, floorstanders or standmounters

price range £400 - £800 ish.

i'm not experienced at listening to many systems but you have mentioned my set up and i had the same prob.

i knew i wanted rega RP3/brio r and it was the speakers that were the variable.

i listened to four speakers: rega r1, castle floorstands (not sure model), MA BX2 and B&W 865

to me the B&W stood out due to the fact i wanted a spacious sound but also good range with a decent bass

after a month of listening to my (also eclectic) collection i'm still really happy with my sound

so i would recommend you listen to the B&Ws if possible with this (in my opinion) great set up 🙂

Thanks for that Dynamo - I had considered the 685's when they first came out.

I will definitely have a listen. Do they perform close to walls? I am very limited to

position unfortunately.

Hi Oldenbroke

I've found the Brio R pairs very well with Rega's RS1 and Dynaudio's DM 2/6 speakers. Monitor Audio's Silver RX1's and Silver RX6's are also worth serious consideration.

All the best

i've got both speakers about 15cm from back wall

one speaker however is close to a unit on one side (nothing i can do about it - but i do have the perfect listening triangle)

i can't hit big volume due to living in a flat but i do open them up when i can and the speakers perform excellently

I've recommended the Q300's before with the Brio R, and that would go for most of the Q series as they're all pretty easy to drive. You should find the Q500's a little easier to get closer to a wall as they're a sealed cabinet, and I find them a little leaner than the Q300. Having said that, I got some Q300's inches from my solid outer wall. Do check out the Neat Iota though - I heard these at the Manchester show pretty much slap bang against the wall and they sounded amazing - and don't be put off by their size!

Thanks very much for the advice Rick and David.

The 685's are a definite Dynamo, as are Q300'S and Q500's. Not sure if

my local dealer has Neat but will definitely seek some out.

Size is not an issue.....as long as the sound is good! I don't need

earthshaking bass (ASW610 can do that when necessary) but some

low end punch would be nice.

Law of Sod coming into play. Have just googled local store and they supply Neat but not Kef.

Going to have to put some miles in to sort this out, but as long as there's a Costa nearby

I'll manage!

It's not the exact answer to your question, but it definitaly works around it:
