speaker wire ends

i have a set of KEF1005 speakers and use the QED silver xt cables but the ends look nasty i have been told that plugs on the end is not an option. can anyone give me a solution to unsightly messy cable ends. i am also sure this must effect the quality i am getting form the speakers also.

Some might argue that putting plugs on the end can have an effect both ways, positive or negative. Though I'm not sure how they can look that messy? Investigating the 1005's, the sockets a) look as if they might take banana plug or b) would hide bare end wire pretty effectively?
