Hello,

I would like to upgrade my wharefedale Diamond 2.1 speakers.
Can you guys recommend some good speakers for me but the depth of the speakers can not be more then 11 inch because of my dekstop setup. Also a speaker with a 6" woofer would be nice upgrade.

Here is my small list for now:
  • Ascend Acoustics SIERRA-LX PAIR
  • Revel M16
  • Focal Vestia 1
  • Neat Petite Classic ( So expensive! )
Current music system: PC -> S/PDIF -> NAD M10 V3 -> Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 -> SVS SB-1000 PRO
Thanks.

Edit: Added a video of my desk setup.

If you are that tight for space you either need speakers intended for confined spaces. Or, you accept the sound will be compromised and just go for the best compromise.

Whats your budget?

A budget for an upgrade from the wharfedales would be between 1000€ and 2000€ for the pair
Depth of the box max 11 inch or 27 cm.

The Neat Petite Classic, Revel M16 and the Focal Vestia 1 speakers would fit nice on my desk and have a 6" woofer.

I’ve owned the Revel M16 Concerta 2 and they are far too big for any desk I’ve ever seen. They needed plenty of room too - mine were on stands well into the room.

If they are going to be on a desk with limited space around them you aren't going to get the best sound. There is no definitive answer two the best compromise, but there are two schools of thought that make sense.
1. Buy something relatively inexpensive as it is never going to sound great. If front ported you will reduce a lot of the issues.
2. Buy something designed for more confined spaces. The Epos ES-7N has a switch to change the midrange and treble depending on if they are standouted or closer to walls. Or the Rogers Ls3/5a. They are the best BBC monitors within your suggested budget.

You make the most important point. It isn't the size of the speakers it's the amount of space they need around them. I have a pair of Mission 701 on a desk, they are quite large at 450 x 215 x 300mm but are ridiculously forgiving and don't mind being close to a wall.

On the other hand my Tannoy's are tiny by comparison but need to be at least 400mm from the wall.

Not the most loud speaker but sound quality should be very good, not expensive

You do not have much space on your desk. Options will be limited to tiny speakers unless you can re-arrange things. I had a pair of Quad 11 Classics which sounded wonderful very close/near and mid field but whether or not that would be an upgrade over what you have, no idea.

The usual suspects of LS3 5/A and Harbeth PS3's have been mentioned. How well they would match with your NAD ... again, no idea.

Studio monitors are made for near field listening, including Genelec and Neumann but they’re often not cheap. Many suggestions here are costly and as they say, maybe not good up against a wall for close listening. And placing speakers directly on a desk is usually bad news.

Another option is decent headphones. The Cambridge Audio P100 are very good, but many others are available.

Your Diamond 12.1 test well:

The problem with speakers is the wide variation in sound quality and voicing.

Do you like the sound you currently get? If not, why not? I’d be tempted to put them on some cork place mats, see if that helps, but just stick with them, or get headphones.

Your NAD has subwoofer outputs. If it's more bass depth you want (which I'm assuming given your request for larger drivers), I strongly suggest you invest in a subwoofer rather than trying to squeeze larger speakers into that space.

These are tiny, sound absolutely fantastic, and are amazingly well finished. Just 9 inches tall. Will fill a room with a wall of sound. Also surprising bass as they have a passive radiator on the back and are designed for wall reinforcement.

I've heard a pair twice now and was gobsmacked on both occasions. I will be buying a set of these for my office. Mine is a very similar setup to you OP.

I guess he wants hifi speakers and don't want to mount them above the monitors angled down

If you have heard the whole video you would have heard deep punchy bass

squeezing unsuitable speakers into such a tight space ?????

Dirac Live Bass Control is expected to be made live in the M10 V3 by end of 2024
