Speaker stand questions

Also seen some Soundstyle Z1's at a good price. Any thoughts on those?

Should be fine as long as you are happy with the looks but they weight about 19kgs so carriage maybe expensive.

as you'll see from another thread I think I've damaged my speakers, so need to sort that before thinking anymore about stands!

Yes she is Tal Wilkenfeld , I have a solo Cd of hers called "Transformation " that shows off her talent very well , she has also played bass for many other top names and bands .

Following those links from Tal Wilkenfield on Spotify, I have names on 'Play List' to investigat like; Oz Noy, Scott Henderson, Frank Gamble, I'm sure to the initiated, well known? . . . to me the old stick in the mud, a revelation, Spotify is great to dip in and out of to sample. Hazel is a little perplexed???? what are you listening to she, having just pocked her head around the door, no its not Horlicks hour, we are just about to sit down for afternoon tea. Music will have to go off in favor of the Archers . . . :?

Seems my system, from what I have listen to in the past hour, is particularly suited to the funky Jazz type music, though I preferred the more traditional acoustic type, another avenue to follow.

Valves really seem to get hold of the music, presenting it with a powerful dynamic that so works in my small room, the PMC LB1 speakers are so tight, small studio type monitors and yet the base extension from the transmission line setup is spine tingling. Im going to have some superb listening, curently; Oz Noy 'Light Blues'. Ah well come back to it this evening . . . Archers now

Thanks for the Link Electro, Horlicks hour material, had a listen to 'Wes Bound' on different albums, I particularly like it on 'Alive in L.A' album, playing now as I type. I have a thing about live recordings, there is an ambiance and atmosphere not found in studio music, I like the 'warts and all' approach, its the real world?

If we could just return to speaker stands for a moment, I'm verging towards the Nexus 6 I just because they have had so mamny good reviews and recomendations and there are also people on this forum who are using them with the same speakers as me.

A couple of quick questions: The ones I'm thinging of buying are listed as Nexus 6, whereas most new ones are listed as Nexus 6 I. Was there an earlier version without the I, and if so what does the I add? Also, were they ever available in gloss black or have they aleays been Satin Black?

Apologies paddy for straying from the thread theme . . . what I should have said was that my PMC LB1's are supported on what was probably the finest stand ever made for small speakers . . .'in my humble opinion' of course, not that I'm biased or anything, very rare, never seen a pair of 'Foundation Designer' on fleBay. A pair I know of did change hands privately recently, once owned never parted with 8)

85cm seems a bit high? Most stands are 50-60cms high, there are some 100 like Atacama 10is but these are meant more for surround speakers. To be honest I don't know of any suitable stands that high, I have a quick look on google and they all seems too thin and flimsy at 85cm for the Dali Zensor 3s. Can you not get some 65cm ones?

I could, however it was suggested that the tweeters, which I understand is the top cone on the speakers, be at my listening height. In order for the speakers tweeters to be at my listening height the stands need to be 85cm. The Dali Zensor 3's will be the left and right back of my 5.1 system, and if I ever get some spare cash, and upgrade it to a 7.1/7.2, they will become the surround backs. My choices are of course limited, I need either to buy stands and if push comes to shove I'll buy a pair of Atacama Aurora 6's, or some sort of shelf or wall mount. Which won't be easy as they require their own space unlike most speakers, which you can just put against a wall.

The 6 had gloss black as an option the 6i do not. Also the 6i have small holes in one of the rear columns to feed your cables through and also small sticky gel pads for your speakers to sit on.

Actually most speakers are better on stands, there are a few speakers that are fairly happy on a shelf or wall mounted.

Thanks for the info, it looks like I'll just have to find a shorter stand and live with it. Unless I can find some alternative method of mounting the speakers. It just seems strange that your advised to treat your speakers in a certain way only to find you can't because the necessary equipment doesn't exist.:wall:

I've been offeredf some Atacama Nexus 6 for £20+£10 P&P. He doesn't have the spikes, but I think these can be bought quite cheaply from eBay.

Tweeter height in my preferred listening position is 55cm. Without spikes these are 58.5cm. Would the extra bit of height really make asny difference or should I hold out for some Atacama 5's to become asvailable.

Also, re spikes, I have laminate flooring, as they really necessary, given thas they are also going to increase to height?

Quick reply if possible as I don't want to lose the deal if they are the right thing to go for.

I've got the Nexus 7i—with a pair of Kef R100, the speakers need to sit higher since the twitter is at the height of the MF/LF. I like them, but I strongly dislike the fact that it's so difficult to have the four spikes exactly at the same height so that the stands stay solid on the floor. And since the floor of my living room is wood, it's not perfectly even. So what works in once place doesn't work as good if I move the stands 20 cm.

Would have it been so difficult to make the stands with three spikes rather than four?!? :O

I've got Atacama Nexus for my DM5 rears. The top plate is quite small, big enough for my /DM5.

Ive got wooden floors, and there was no way I was going to use the spikes and then faff about with spike shoes..

I used the supplied gel pads for feet and blu tack for the speakers. Secure on the floor and sit very level. Spikes have always been a pain for me..

I've got Atacama Nexus for my DM5 rears. The top plate is quite small, big enough for my /DM5.

That was the other issue I had with these, the top plate does seem rather small for my speakers( h351 x w205 x d293), is that going to cause problems?

It doesn't sit well with my OCD to have top plates that are smaller than the base of the speaker. Blu tak does help securing them though

As as I said the Nexus go pretty well with the DM5, but they are small speakers.

My larger stand mounts (AVI ADM9) are on MA GS stands and fit perfectly.

I think I'll give them a go if I can still get them for that price. Seems a fair few people are using them with B&W 685's which are deeper, but a bit narrower, and found a few references to them being used with Kef Q300's and R300's, which are bigger all round.

Finally got my Atacama Nexus 6 (without the "i" I think as there are no holes for cables to go through). Cost me £20 on ebay+£9.30 for a courier which I arranged.

The difference in sound doesn't appear to be huge, but it does seem to have helped a little bit with my bass pocket problem in another thread and they certainly look a lot better than piles of books! I haven't tried filling them yet, but will get some cat litter in the week and see how that affects things.

The base plate is quite small in relation to the speakers, butI was suprised at how firlmly attached the speakers feel using just regular blu tac (couldn't find black tac locally.)

At the moment, I've got the front of the top plate about a cm behind the front of the speaker, so there's a fair bit of speaker jutting out at the back. I think I've seen pictures of positioning them like this and they look better, but just wanted to check if there is a prefered method?

Second question:

They haven't got the spikes, but I know generic ones can be purchased quite cheaply on ebay. Not sure if I need them though? I have wood laminate flooring built on something solid feeling (2nd floor flat).

The tweeters are already at ear height, so spikes or anything else place underneath will bring them up, not sure how accurate this aspect needs to be.

Here's a picture of how I have them on stands at the moment. Looks a bit silly from this angkle actually! Should I position them more centrally or more forward?
