That was very much what I use to do, then I solder drip on the carpet............ooooops!
Impossible to remove the dropped solder blob without taking some of the carpet with it.

Purists advise that it's best to avoid having your signal pass (entirely) through solder - and that just screw or crimp fixing, in plugs, is preferable.
(Though I think most people would expect signal to be passing through plenty of solder within components).
