Hi,
I was thinking of getting a TV stand from Argos which has 4 compartments in it for my AV equipment - my question is I have a Denon AVR-X2300W and the clearance to the sides could be approx. 30mm and approx. 40mm from the top of the amp to the shelf above would this be enough clearance around the unit to allow heat to get away I was going to leave the back off the bottom half of the unit as well or drill a lot of large holes in it if that would affect the stability of the unit - TIA

Are you going to put doors on the front? If not, overheating probably may not be too much of an issue, but Denon sort of recommend 50mm on each side and about 125mm above an amp - but it's not a hard and fast rule.
- From the look of it this cabinet is open fronted, which helps

But assuming you are worried about the Denon running overhot, and that you're putting the amp on the lower shelf. You could consider drilling holes in the bottom, i.e. underneath the amp, so convection would pull in cooler air. However, I notice the cabinet has a plinth down to ground level at the front, and full sides to ground level, which could frustrate this. Unless there's space round the back? Holes underneath the amp won't be so visible.

I wouldn't remove the back panel, as it's probably needed to make the cabinet stable, especially if you're going to put the TV on top, so I'd look at cutting holes int it.

What you're trying to avoid is heat build up along the sides and top. I've got my Marantz SR7009 in a Salamander Chameleon cabinet, with doors. There's a grille under the amp, and there's clear airspace under the cabinet, though it does have a closed back and the clearance round my amp isn't far of yours at the sides (the compartment's just over 50cm wide) and I've got about 50mm clearance at the top and I've had no overheating problems.

Thanks - there will not be any doors on the unit - I found what denon recommended after posting but thought this was extreme I was looking at another cainet which did not have the left hand cente shelf jst one open compartment which would be sufficient but didn't like the look of it as much - the tv will be mounted on a separate wall bracket so maybe a centre speaker or cd player only on top of the cabinet hence the thoughts of drilling holes in the back panel

I think manufacturers err on the side of caution - and I can understand this, they don't want unhappy owners claiming their amps overheated. And as I said, my Marzantz SR6009 (which probably runs as hot as it's Denon cousins) is in a pretty confined space, with a door on the front...
