I've started looking at soundbars especially the Yamaha range due to lack of space for an AV amp and surround speakers. I'm looking for HDMI inputs/outputs for my PS3 and also a MP3 Line In if possible.

I have a 32" Pana LCD so something as neat as possible would be appreciated. I'm looking at the Yamaha YSP-30D or the YSP-600 but I'm a bit confused which is the newer or better model.

I'm struggling to find any decent reviews of soundbars so any advice would be helpful.

Anyone able to help with which model is newer or more superior. They both look pretty similar and it's not very clear what the difference is apart from maybe a line in and dab radio on the ysp-30d?

Hi. These two models are both recent, and form part of the current range. The YSP-30D is designed to be the premium-quality option for a 32in TV: it has 23 individual drive units compared to 18 in the YSP-600, which helps it to deliver a slightly more effective wrap-around effect. It also has a little more amplifier power for its mid/bass drivers.
Subtler but perhaps equally significant points of differentiation: the YSP-30D has DAB, as you pointed out, and will also support Yamaha's optional iPod dock, unlike its sibling. It can also be wall-mounted, which isn't an option on the YSP-600.
Of course, there's the price difference to take into account - you'll have noticed from our recent story that the YSP-600 is now £400 (down from £500) and the YSP-30D is now £600 (down from £800).ÿ

Thanks for the reply. The main source to this would be my PS3 through HDMI. I would probably be looking at the ysp-600 but it's not clear if it is capable of handling HD audio or if it can handle the pcm output from the PS3 through HDMI to get surround? Thanks

Andy, Will there be a review of the YSP-600 which was mentioned in the news section in April by Joe Cox?

Although it has HDMI inputs there are rumours that it will only produce PCM in 2 channel stereo through HDMI. If this is the case what is the point in having the HDMI connection in the first place!!!?

I presume that it cannot handle HD Audio or even DD 5.1 through the HDMI cable and you need to use an optical connection to get DD 5.1. This seems rediculous!

Can someone confirm this please?
