Nice...... I upgraded from an old 32" crt to a 42" Pany PZ85 last year,I was like a kid at xmas when it was delivered. My new Pany seemed absolutely HUGE compared to my old 32" and there was a big Oooooohhhh moment when I had my 1st HD experience with Spiderman on Blu-Ray. I spent most of the film just looking at all the detail rather than watching the film, pausing the film at various stages along the way just for a closer look. Films look amazing on a big tv
,especially on Blu-Ray.
If your tv is anything like mine you will need to set it up properly with the THX optimiser, found on some films. The standard factory settings were miles off and it made one hell of a difference once properly set up. Theres a video
here that explains how to use it if you havn't used it before, chapter 5.
You can also buy specialist set up disc's like this
one which are a bit more complicated to use compared to the THX optimiser, but you soon get the hang of it. I just re-calibrated my tv again with DVE but it only took a few minutes to do this time. Also when you tweak the settings make sure the lighting in your room is the same as when you actually watch the tv. So for example if you watch films at night time with the lights turned down low, then adjust your settings in the same conditions.
On my tv I have a few different picture modes,
Cinema,
Eco and
Normal so I set up each one for different sources at different times of the day. Cinema I set up at night time for movies with the dimmer switch in my room turned all the way down, HDMI from my PS3 on full 1080P.
Eco I use for watching SKY at all times of the day which is from a standard SKY box using RGB scart. My tv has a sensor which adjusts the picture depending on how much light is in the room, which is handy. To set this up I set my PS3 to output on RGB scart(as thats the connection I have to use from my SKY box) and then tweaked the settings using the various test patterns on DVE. There was quite a bit of difference via RGB scart compared to the HDMI settings. I only used HDMI on the PS3 when I 1st set it up for all picture modes so now I have done it properly SKY now looks better than before.
Normal I use for playing games, I find the properly calibrated settings a bit dark for games so I set it up with the DVE 1st and then added a couple of clicks to the brightness/contrast.
EDIT: Sorry that was a bit long winded, anyways I hope you enjoy your new toys
