So here is my dilemma as mentioned in another thread.

Do I go for the Sony 4k projector and be done with it. Or do I go for the JVC range?

JVC - Better Black levels and image quality

Sony - Black levels not as deep, but it has s response time of 2.5ms (claimed) this means gaming on a PC will be incredible, not so important for consoles but still a nice proposition, considering the JVC has a 130ms response time!

In my mind I keep telling myself that I can save up to £4000 if I chose the JVC X500, or £1000 if buying the X700. Then I could buy a better 4k projector later on when the technology kicks in.

Or am i looking at this in the wrong way and I should future proof myself now?

Either do it properly and go for the VW500ES now (rather than getting 'faux' 4K), or get something temporary for a year or two and then see what 4K2K choice you have. Although it is important, contrast/black level isn't the be all and end all.

You can never properly futureproof yourself.

Leaving 4k out of it the Sony is in my experience the better projector by a good margin. The JVC does produce a blacker black but the benefit of that is really only seen in ideal conditions. I have the JVC and the Sony both running through a Lumagen video processor and correctly calibrated the Sony produces a staggering image. The Sony would be my choice as you can get on and enjoy your films now - if you wish to hold off I would add a Lumagen to the Sony-HW55.

Both are very good, but the Sony realy steals the show. I had a lengthy demo with one customer and also let a different chap borrow both the VW500es and the X700 for two weeks and both plumped for the Sony.

I don't know about you Nick, but for me, the Sony seems to have a more natural looking picture.

I do - I have favoured the Sony over the JVC since the VPL-VW80 although some years the differences have been very close. I can see the attraction to the JVC and I regularly specify the X500. The JVC is considerably cheaper than the Sony VW500 though - the VPL-VW95 is really the competitor and that is a tougher one to call.

Interesting, so if we add the X900 into the mix, which is in the same price bracket as the Sony. Would you still feel the same about the projector?

Also going to look at the Lumagen you mention.
